Resistance 3 ties up the trilogy in great fashion, with some of the best guns in any first person shooter.

REVIEWERS NOTE: I DIDN"T PLAY ONLINE, I JUST ENJOYED THE CAMPAIGN!

Resistance was the first game I played when I got the expensive hulk that was the Playstation 3. The series went on to have it's ups and downs, and I was a little worried that this game wouldn't wrap up the series in great fashion. Resistance 2 is probably one of my biggest disappointments of this generation, it just seemed to take away a lot of what make Insomniac's games so fun. I was thrilled to see Resistance 3 kept the charm and awesome guns that the developer is known for.

Right when you start this game it shows off it's unique art style and tries to get you up to speed in the story so far. The chimera are doing a great job on kicking humanity's ass, and Earth only has a year or 2 before it becomes a frozen wasteleand. It does a good job trying to make you care for the new hero. It's kind of too sappy, right down to the sick kid and the wife who needs a world for him to grow up in. It's clear they want to pull at your heart's strings, for better or worse.

Things quickly pick up though as you follow a Doctor who thinks they can take down a beacon that will save Earth (long story short). The story is nothing special, I'll say that much. It's adequate but nothing mind blowing. It does do a nice job to tie the Franchise off, and is a fitting end to the trilogy.

Right away the game feels smooth. The graphics run with no lag or screen tearing that I experienced, and battles are fierce and health can drop fast. This gets kind of annoying if an enemy sneaks behind you as he can take major health away before you can react. The controls are like most major FPS, but the guns certainly aren't.

This is the major joy of the game. You gets such crazy guns along with the usual (assault rifle, shotgun, magnum) and Chimeran guns. Each gun also has secondary fire that is mapped to R2, this ranges from grenade launcher, tracker to a mist that can turn waves of human enemies into a hideous chimeran zombie things. This gives every gun great range and different strategies to battles, the guns really are such a blast to shoot.

The pacing of the campaign is great. There is 20 chapters in total, and the chapters do a great job of providing variety. It throws you against hordes of chimerian foes, gives you some vehicle levels, and even puts you up enemies that remind you of the damn Flood in Halo. These Chimeran zombies I guess. They just run full force at you and hit you over and over, while other variation spew toxins or even suicide explode you. These levels are very tense as they horde around you and you always feel like you're running for your life and you're never in control. There is even a great evil human you'll meet for a few chapters who you'll enjoy taking down.

When playing, you never feel like you're doing a chore, or waiting for the game to end. This is great because the game can take up to 15 hours to play, depending on skill and how much you search for audio files and folders. Also, there's times where I stopped and oggled the beautiful scenery. I actually got my brother to see one scene near the end of the game where you're first witnessing the huge scope of the enemy base ship. It''s not photorealism like Killzone 3, but it's beautiful none the less. The character models aren't great, your sick child looks almost like a creep porcelain doll. But the scenery and scope of the game is pretty impressive to behold.

Resistance will go down as a pretty underrated trilogy. The first offered great games, while the second kind of lost track of why it was so fun. Luckily in this final instalment you'll find closure and so much fun killing the alien scum with a wonderful variety of guns and grenade types.
