The Resident Evil series has made its debut on the Nintendo 3DS to a less than perfect reception. The object of the game is too fight enemies and survive the clock. Is it really as bad as it seems?

You start the game with three characters to play as. More become available as you progress in levels resulting in a total of six playable characters.

Missions consist of a variety of game types. Some are just to defeat all enemies before time runs out, others have you extending the time through bonuses to continue to fight and rack up points. A select few are boss fights that have you fighting recognizable bosses and defeating them before time runs out. These games can be extremely fun especially if you like timed point hunting mini-games.

One thing that separates this game from the moe in RE4/5 is the perk system similar to Call of Duty. Perks are unlocked through playing the game and you can have three active at a time. These perks range from lowered chances of being killed instantly to electrifying melee attacks.

There is more than just a single palyer mode in this game. You can play online through local play or wifi to work with other players cooperatively.

No game is without faults and this game has more than most. Audio is horrible and staticey. If you pay attention you'll notice enemies in the distance lose frame rate and lag until they get closer. The missions can start to get old after being played frequently.

If you don't care for short timed missions, then maybe you'll be interested in the demo of Resident Evil Revelations packed inside. Definitely worth some extra points in the final score

Final Bite-Resident Evil The Mercernaries 3D is a fun collection of short pick up and play missions with a few extra perks that may or may not overshadow the many faults depending on personal opinions. 8/10
