Just because it is aging doesn't mean it's not still fun

User Rating: 9.5 | Resident Evil Code: Veronica X GC
Playing this game for the first time at the end of 2007, you'd probably expect me to not enjoy it. However, I am blessed with the ability to appreciate something as it was for its day.
And man, this game was and is awesome.
It ties into the other Resident Evils very nicely. The Ashford family story is very intriguing. Claire returns. Both Chris and Wesker finally return. The gameplay is slightly improved while still remaining true to its predecessors. What more could you ask for?
I won't talk about graphics, since it is a moot point what with the graphics newer consoles can conjure up. It obviously looks crappy now but who cares? The story and gameplay are what move code veronica foreward, not the aesthetics.
The gameplay is improved by a real time camera, which definitely makes things easier. I like that the "tank controls" were still implemented. Classic Resident Evil! (right along with cheesy dialogue, cutscenes, and self destruct system at the end!)
CVX still retains that foreboding Resident Evil atmosphere while simultaneously moving the series foreword and that is really what all game sequels should do.
The story is difficult to talk about without spoiling things, but I assure you it is superb as always. Not to mention it's a lengthy adventure, probably a good 15-20 hours your first play through.
The only real complaint I have about CVX is the character Steve Burnside. He was annoying and unlikeable. I did not care about him at all and that's unusual for me. I usually love all the side characters. I even liked Ashley in RE4. This one, however, was underdeveloped and lacking in personality.
But, overall, I highly recommend this game to fans of the Resident Evil series. It's aging, but it's still worth playing through just for the great story.
