User Rating: 6.3 | Resident Evil Code: Veronica X GC
I had originally seen this game the first time on the ps2, before that I was not even the slightest bit interested in Resident evil games, consisting of cartoon like graphics. They seemed more like a horror theme park games and I was hard pressed to get any thrill from them. The Ps2 gave RE games the chance to become more realistic to the eye and move away from what I call the “theme park horror games”. However Code Veronica still lacks the color and quality seen in RE remake etc On the Gamecube, so as with Ps2 and know ported to the Gamecube I will not be getting any great thrills. The ps2 version left me somewhat wishing I hadn’t wasted my weekend. Code Veronica for me I find even more now graphically lacking and somewhat extremely bland visually, the characters remind me of clothed dolls, except dolls looked more real. After playing RE re-make, graphically Code Veronica can’t even compete due to it being designed on a severely outdated ps2 graphics, which is why I wished they had made a re-make of this game also, it would have looked drool worthy with the Cubes graphics. Sound is alright, weapons sound a bit stiff but overall the sound was good then…….it still holds up okay to RE-remake, but is lacking in many areas which would of helped keep its appeal for the Gamecube as the sound is a major part of RE. Game play is about the only aspect of Code Veronica which really can not be criticized, as it does not really need console power etc, but more less the game designers imagination and ability. The game plays through very well, giving good timing to the awaiting horrors for you to encounter (not wanting to ruin any surprises to wanting players) and the controls being also a bit stiff still work good once you finally get used to them like in all other RE games, the game keeps good pace and has a alright ending and some few extras which give it some reply value…….that is if u can live with the bland outdated graphics and sound not being on par with the latest RE games. Overall good game play, ugly graphics and alright sound means at most a weekend rental for me, never bought it for Ps2 and will never buy it for the Cube. Wish they would have made a remake of It I cry!!!! Make sure you play it first before you play any of the new RE games on the Gamecube……then it should be alright.
