Code Virgin certainly isn't the best title in the series

User Rating: 6 | Resident Evil Code: Veronica X PS2

So I was hyped to play this game because I found an ad for it. I was told it was a good Dreamcast game. But eh not really.

STORY

You play as Claire Redfield who has been caught by the nefarious Umbrella Organization. You must escape and find the obvious truth that they are breeding mutants and resurrecting the dead. You are hunted by an incest couple air to a rich family.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay in Code Veronica is the same afair as previous RE titles but with more linearity and a slow pace. You have a inventory for your items, limited ammo, stiff controls but ones that work better, and plenty of evil monsters to spook you. There are a lot of puzzles. Ones that lock you in rooms. But it doesn't get boring gameplay wise. Too boring to be scary and you'll see why now. The enemies are mostly boring.

GRAPHICS

This one is a big game changer except if it worked right. The levels are fully 3D polygon graphics. No sprites, no flat images. Dynamic lighting when you blast a gun or go into a level. However they lack the luster of the original prerendered backgrounds. They aren't shiny and just blurry. The models are fully detailed with faces and fingers and well animated as well as the CG cutscenes. But the enemies aren't scary enough mostly. The zombies suck. Everything here is just bland by today's standards.

Oh and it's too dark. I can't stand this. You can't change the brightness

SOUND

Oh yikes, not that this game is scary because it is not. The music is mostly bad TV quality music with horns and trumpets. Boring zombie moans.

The voice acting is really bad to.

CONCLUSION

I'm so sorry. I don't like Resident Evil Code Veronica. I'm not into it. If I got to playing it more maybe i'd like it. Sound and graphics matter sometimes and a game and quite frankly that is all pretty underwhelming in this survival horror game.
