"Resident Evil 6" is a marvellous installment to the survival-horror franchise. Thank you Capcom.

Resident Evil 6 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi claims they need to have mass-market appeal in order to survive.
I've been a huge fan of Resi since i was a kid, and i do agree with gs it certainly has strayed away from it's old path and it may be time to reboot the game. But the game itself isn't actually that bad, and i personally enjoyed some elements although others were unbearable, but i really dont want to play another Resi like this. Capcom have the wrong idea though, making a brilliant survival horror game will ultimately make more money and gain higher demand than an average horror action?? whatever this game is.
Thank you CAPCOM for a magnificence "Resident Evil" experience with your lastest release "Resident Evil 6". I brought this title knowing fully well a powerful storyline, great gameplay, a marvellous experience and intriguing characters would enhance my gaming experience to new heights. After I owned everyone in "SSF IV A.E" with my mastered bootylicious 30K+ Chun-Li, and switched to "Resident Evil 6", started the Leon Campaign, CAPCOM I was hooked with Helena's mysterious behavior, and secrets leading up til the very end. I must mention, I intentionally failed combating with the voluptuous "Mutated Deborah Harper" (Helena's .....) for 1 hour & 45 minutes, not because I couldn't defeat her, but because I enjoyed killing her with my ...Sniper rifle. ( I swear if there was a zombie fallout, & the Mutated Deborah Harper exist I would make love with her, then find an antidote to cure her.) In all seriousness, the intellectual thought process and execution of "Resident Evil 6" is impeccably done. 10 out of 10.
This was a series that not only built the foundation for survival horror, but managed to revitalize the genre again and again in new and interesting ways, or so until recently allowing it to crumble in favor of all this "action". It's unfortunate that Capcom would even consider the natural trappings of the horror genre to be the cause of any sort of limited appeal. Wonderful atmosphere and carefully executed combat might not guarantee a quick buck the way an immediate shoot em' up will, but before they threw all integrity out the door, the Resident Evil franchise had something no Modern Warfare knock off ever will: a true legacy.
Currently, I have not played RE6 yet, though to be honest, when I do, I honestly believe I will enjoy it. After all, I quite enjoyed RE5, despite what many a nay sayer had told me about it's archaic controls and ridiculous set ups. But this article is without a doubt, a disappointing and unflattering look into the ideas driving the series downward, and I don't know anymore if I consider myself as honestly a fan of the franchise as I once was. Here's hoping RE7 will right what's wrong, but I certainly won't be holding my breath for a miracle. :(
Trust me you won't be disappointed, please buy "Resident Evil 6". Your doing alot of typing regarding the franchise and its lastest release, and haven't even played or experienced the FULL game for yourself. If you can't afford it, try gamefly, first month is free, you'll need to have at $22.00 - $24.00 on a credit card (you won't be charged). If that fails, I 'll buy you a copy. Its ashame people are believing & listening to clueless greenhorns who haven't played the FULL game. Ignore them please.
This is just pitiful. As if the RE movies havnt butchered the game enough now the games own developers are trying to appeal to the masses?!?!?! Ok well great going capcom yall just put the nail in the coffin. People didnt buy resident evil because it was "LIKE OTHER GAMES" they bought it because it was "RESIDENT EVIL." If i wanted an action game id buy something else.......
The gaming industry is becoming stale because of this mentality "how can we make our game more like all the others out there" it just doesn't make sense?
None of the RE sequels match up to the original. The reason being that they became less scary with each release.
Capcom are doing the absolute opposite of what they should be doing. They're taking away it's identity and making it more like your average run and gun game.
They need to take RE back to its horror roots. Why are people going to buy a game thats just like any other?
Its a slight mix of magnificence RE futurism, on how the series is destine to evolve anyway, but with extremely loyal roots dedicated to the RE formula. "Resident Evil 6" is the ulimate example of that. "Resident Evil 7" should continue this impressive new formula, but probably focus all efforts on the old survival-horror formula, since this ridiculous controversy & uproar is solely confused mentally ill over the hard facts that haters & greenhorn reviewers wanted it to play "their" way and arrogantly ignoring and admitting RE6" is still a marvellous title.
Oh, so they are being honest now. "We switched from horror to action because that way we can make MOAR MONY!"
Look, genious... as long as there is God of War, Gears of War and Vanquish out there, there will always be better action games out there.
- Uncharted isn't be best shooter, they have plot and characters to fill in the gaps.
- Deus Ex didn't have great shooting mechanics either, but it had its gadgets and atmosphere to draw on.
RE4 and 5 were descent action games, but both depended on the horror elements to carry them.
Freboy, you obviously NEVER played the "Resident Evil 6" the full game. Its full with survival-horror.
@HornyChunLi You are right, I haven't. But I have played almost every RE game before, and I have followed its transition into a more action-oriented game with mixed feelings. What I have read about RE6 by reviewers AND by developers fulfills my worst expectations perfectly.
Regardless, in this article we saw the RE developers openly admitting that they are moving away from the RE series root toward an action oriented game specifically in order to make money. In other words, they truly don't care about the spirit of the series anymore.
If you're here to tell me that it's not as bad as I've been led to believe, then that would make me very happy. I have been an RE since the very first game on PS1.
Wow, this sounds like Sonic the hedgehog 4, trying to appeal to both fan bases, well it didnt turn out very well, and its because of this approach they lose respect from both sides of the spectrum. Just make a damn good horror resident evil game... History is repeating itself right here folks and the ending is not good...
Yeah Yeah you are right Capcom. Than why you did the background texture quality low? Resident Evil 4 is still better than this for sure. I'v noticed some textures are same with RE4 but its bad version. This game is total lazzy work and hushed, full of bugs and glitches in QTE.Also this game should be made pure horror capcom, Resident Evil means pure horror. If I want action I play COD style games, and all fans known RE title belongs to pure horror root.
yeah right...and Resident Evil at the very start was a mass Market product? whatever lol.
And Silent Hill 1,2,3 and 4 should be played by children at 5PM at dinner time with all the family lol and Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th should be Mass Marketed products that the whole family enjoy.
the world has had a taste of 5 million sales. Back then 1 million sales was a complete and utter success. Now they have a taste of 5 million sales they just want more of it.
This is a joke.
Capcom is missing the point. COD and other shooters are at their roots FPS's. Its how they started out. Resident evil was a HUGE horror brand in itself that didn't need to lose its identity to appeal to mass market. When you mentioned Resident evil you didn't expect to play a horror-free action movie. At the end of the day no game survives in the market by losing its core identity.
Resident Evil 6 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi announces DLC for RE6 with himself as the playable character. DLC will be titled "Killer Kevin" The player must try to avoid being murdered by a demon possessed human wielding an oversized fountain pen.
copout, if there was a kickstarter for a real RE survival horror game imagine how much money it would get...of course they would need some type of demo to show to people before they invest but if they did i'm sure it would make millions.
I take it Mr CBS bitch slapped the UK crew for their sarcasm and now we have a news show that takes itself seriously? Hell, if I wanted that I'd watch IGN or that other one with the boobies. Errr, I mean news... Yea, News,
How hard is it to gather all the staff members who were working on RE6 and put them to play RE 1,2,3,4 and then the manager simply to say: i want for the new story, all of that in this one. wtf is with zombies with brains, wtf is with mutated javo or whatever...if you want final boses to be good and enjoyable to kill it doesn't necesarerly be big like an apartment building....an the quick time event....my god..Capcom will invent the first interactive movie, were the main caracters will stop and wait for comands...,the all to powerful takedowns...makes caracters look like they are on steroids....and the list goes on and on....
I wait quietly for dead space 3, and the miracle of 2013...THE last of US....and hope that they will make my game moment memorable. Peace out !
The Mass Public, wants a GOOD gaming experience.... Keep up this shitty work and there won't BE a gaming market, because we will go back to reading BOOKS.
thats the only reason why i play games like morrowind and Oblivion and Mass effect anyway, its like an interactive sci fi book if you read all the stories in the games.

@CivilizedPsycho You're spot on with your comment. It's ultimately beginning to become sorely disappointing with how companies attempt this method and end up doing as you stated. The survival detail sounded okay especially when dealing with marketing, but once upon a time video games were mainly for people who played video games. Sure, the numbers have grown and we see more people playing video games now than ever before. Suffice to say that most gamers are comfortable within their set genres. Reaching out to them by mixing things up that are currently in a separate genre is a horrible idea. I understand the end goal, but it's not going to work. And maybe I'm wrong, maybe these companies have done their research and have returned results that surprised them. I just don't see it being plausible to begin with.
well, what to be expect? it's biohazard, not 24/7 zombies~~~ but i do admit, the horror of RE is getting not that horror anymore, well, the story still great though. everyone have their own opinion.
@elliotben agree, but they could just for say something ...some games with new characters, been help bye the old Raccoon City survivors on many parts of the world and then all together finish Umbrella... that would it be nice.... al old characters and the ppl they safe along .... it dosent mean every game has to be on 24hrs timeline but it was part of the horror the night play.... but RE3 was... i realy dont remember how many days timeline, but it vas good. Now they have made.. Neo-Umbrella.... WTF?? who is could made it? if all the Five Umbella heads are down (dead)?
If capcom continues this way on RE10 Jusus Christ (WAR) its gonna come and safe all us because Satan its the New-Neo-Umbrella II, owner..... =_=crap + crap.......14 yrs ago it was kind of "cool" if you finished RE2 or 3 (13 yrs ago) now i know 6 yrs old kids who plays RE5 an they just have to shot shot shot shot open door open door hit hit hit shoot shoot shoot ....... but i i make them play RS 1, 2, 3. they get cant with them ...... =D
Cop-out for a flawed game. The series died when shinji mikami left capcom after creating resident evil 4

@CivilizedPsycho @mikeyman2002 True but at least Team Ninja is learning to listen to their fans. DOA 5 rocks and NG3 Razors Edge looks amazing!
RE died after RE4 simple as that ... in fact they mostly destroy everything that made them so big during the PS2 area ...
During the PS2 they had the RE1 remake, RE zero, RE4, Devil May Cry 1,2,3 , they had Viewtiful Joe, etc ...
Now they plague Street Fighter with 3 consecutive release with too much DLC that render the previous game obsolite ... then they destroy Devil May Cry with the abomination of the 4 and now with the Emo restart ... kill for good RE with RE5/6.
I'm done with Capcom, I'll never buy a product with their logo on it again... I did the same thing with EA, Activision and Ubisoft ... too much crap being published by those big compagny.
@Coco_pierrot You are so right, RE died what an irony, time ago i wish Capcom remake all the first RE (1,2,3, code veronica) but now ill prefer the remembers that have because im sure they will make an other crap with them ..........R.I.P Resident Evil: survival horror games.
@Coco_pierrot I completely agree with you Coco. I really could not have said it better myself. They had some great franchises and then just....obliterated them.....
Bastards; you survive this far with 5/6 previous Resident Evil games that focused on horror just fine!
i think this game its much better tan RE4 and RS5, it has to be faster because its not an horror survival game any more, yeah it a shooter because since RE4 (crap =S ) they lost the creativity to make any quiz or puzzle, i always asked my self... who will risk hes life to sell guns&ammo to 1 single person????
i just hope capcom, fi they dare to make RS7 they use a little more of cretivity bucasue afther Code:Veronica every time y play a new RE i feel like im playing a new mosnter shooter... the only thing left from the first RE are the names....
"mass-market appeal" huh? They advertised the game in a very big scale that's for sure. Can't believe Capcom disappoints us again. Admit failure, so that we can learn from it and be better. The fact that Capcom still wants to give those excuse really make me sad. Dark Souls is not action packed, why it is still so good? Think Capcom, before we abandon you.
Every time some dev or publisher (or movie producer) talks about "mass-market appeal" or "reaching a bigger audience" I puke a little through my tear ducts. Why not include some rythm based gameplay sections in there too? I heard guitar hero is kinda popular. We all know where this is going: Free to play Resident Evil MMORPG :)
Oh ... but they did the MMO thingy during the PS2 area ... RE : Outbreak and they dare to do it again with RE: Outbreak Files 2 ...
The idea was awesome but they way they did the game ... it was bad, unbelivable
Definitely a cop out. Maybe in Wall Street bankers can get away with screwing their customers but not in the video gaming industry! Not in my backyard.
See if Yoshiaki actually had a brain, he would have made a new RE franchise for casual gamers and improved the classic formula for hardcore loyalists. Now he's lost both markets.
Ah, yes.. "claims they need to have mass-market appeal in order to survive" if you're a brain-dead MBA bean-counter. Let's alienate the fans and customers we have to try to get the fans and customers we don't.
So the developer that just released Resident Evil 6 says they need to create games with mass market appeal to survive. The irony is overwhelming, since this is the sixth title in a horror series, and I distinctly remember at least a few of the Resident Evil games were all about the horror. Creating action is easy, creating real tension with game play mechanics and an environment that creates an atmosphere of dread for the gamer takes real effort.
The problem is most developers all share the same consensus about what appeals to the mass market. So most games are becoming clones of themselves, and like Hollywood, this is the era of sequels not originality. For me, what makes a great game is one that stands out above the rest, and gives me a unique gaming experience I?ll remember.
I still remember playing the first couple Resident Evils all these years later, and can actually recall some very specific moments in those games and the great reactions I experienced playing them. When I think back to the last couple Resident Evil games, I have trouble even differentiating between the games, and I have no distinctly fond memories of them. Just another game.
Horror, stealth, RPG, and pretty much every other game genre are becoming action games. It?s gotten to the point that the most defining aspect of a game is if it?s a first person or is it a third person shooter. Same game, different name. This isn't how you?ll convince me to separate myself from my hard earned money.
@moisan4 im with you man, when the first resident evil came out many ppl said:i don't like it because of the controls but it got famous because it was different... capcom should try to keep that market like MGS ( MGS alway was different to any other game, also MG online was very different to any other online game, the most tactical y ever seen) but whe capcom decided to gat more player they juts made an other GOW+COD+zombies and they may god new ppl and the old ones keep but its just an other game now..... what a shame
