relatively fun game with frustrating QTEs

User Rating: 7 | Resident Evil 6 PC
I've been playing this game since it came out, mostly in its online co-op mode. It sort of made impression on me as a solid *7/10* game. Some early reviewers see it as a *9* game? I replayed large sections of the game and still can't find much to justify any score above 7.5, maybe an 8 with some stretch of imagination and positive bias bent. In a way, this game is overrated but still manages to be fun to a large extent.

- GAMEPLAY SINGLE[7/10]; CO-OP [8/10]: game is for the most part of a medium difficulty for an average-skilled player with many frustrarating QTE moments that breaks the fluidity of the gameplay.

- MECHANICS [7/10] Greatly improved mechanics/character movement, which doesn't say much since RE series had terrible mechanics in the past.

- GRAPHICS/VID [7.5/10] -- really not that bad, but definitively not on par with the best at its highest quality settings. Seems the game should run smoother than it does.

- SOUND [8/10] -- The overall sound experience is about average, nice in some areas, but falls flat in others. Voice acting is slightly above average.

- LENGTH [8.5/10] -- nice, decent length.

- VALUE/RE-PLAYABILITY [8.5/10] -- with multiplayer/co-op modality the game re-playability and value is very good.

- QTE [1/10] -- the game breaking feature that should have been left out. It features not so much challenging actions, but rather frustrating since during these (many) moments the control is to a large extent taken from the player in order to glorify some imaginary movie-like action that really doesn't belong in the 21st century. CAPCOM rarely listen to its customers and they are in love with randomly mashing keyboard keys or controller buttons which is by most people frowned upon. For some QTEs use a gamepad because it's somewhat easier, but for most it doesn't make any difference. My opinionated advice ... replace QTEs with tougher firefights (funny, skilled players will rarely die during fights on hard difficulty and if they die at some point during the gameplay it will happen during these QTEs).

Overall, this is a relatively fun game that many will rate somewhat above its realistic quality. CO-OP play is a nice feature and well done. QTEs are the major weakness and the point of frustration. Mechanics are better in RE6 compared to the rest in the series but still far from stellar. Overall score: 7.2/10.
