RE5 is a great follow up to RE4

User Rating: 9.5 | Resident Evil 5 PC
I am not new to the RE games. I played RE on PS1 and so forth RE2 being my favorite of the series. I did like the changes they made when RE4 came out. But that transformed RE from "survival horror" to "action horror". Which isn't a bad thing only a new approach to get a different audience. I have to say it worked. They may have lost some of their original fans but got a whole lot more to turn their heads in Capcom's direction.

They did a great job on the PC version of the game. It looks great and plays awesome. However, It did take 3 times of trying to install the game before it did. The install took about 1 hour to complete. I have read that i am not the only one with this problem. But it is worth the install hassle.

Mouse and keyboard work very well. In fact better than a controller. Instead of the laser guide to show you where you are aiming, like in RE4 and console versions, you have a cross hair. I am not sure why they did this because a laser would have worked fine with a mouse setup.

Co-op couldn't have worked any smoother. You can join games very easily with the built in game search. Also windows live voice chat works great. Not very many people use the voice though. But if you find someone playing in your country that betters your chance of them using voice chat.

~I felt that the normal difficulty should have been easy.
~I thought Chris took to many steroids since RE1. The guy is huge! He's a walking gorilla.
~It would be nice, when inventory full, to be able to combine a herb with one in inventory without needing to pick it up first.
~RE has great cut scenes and movies. However they also require you to press buttons or you will die in the cut scene. This can be annoying as you will press the buttons and still die. Or, hit the wrong button on the keyboard, there are a lot of keys on a keyboard, and die. This concept works better with a controller.

~If you choose to play with infinite ammo you do miss out on the reload animations. Instead of being able to reload the weapon with infinite magazines they just simply don't run out of ammo. I wish instead of that you had unlimited reloads. This way you still get the infinite ammo, you get to see the reload animations, and it does require some more skill. Nothing like running your gun dry right before a zombie bite.

There is plenty to do after beating the game. Harder difficulties, weapons to unlock, unlimited ammo options to unlock, figurine's to view of characters, different costumes, and mercenaries. I haven't played very much of mercenaries. I am just having to much fun replaying the main game and doing unlocks.

My PC at the time of this review: Intel 2.66 quad core, GTX260 core 216, 4 gig of ram.
