The most innovative of the resident evil series, this one is definently worth buying, for fans and new comers alike.

User Rating: 9.3 | Resident Evil 4 PS2
This Resident Evil is well noted as one which has set new ground and standards for the Resident Evil series, and maybe even the whole survival horror genre. The story and gameplay technique is different - yes but this is a good thing and works really well for it. The story of Resident Evil 4 is you're Leon Kennedy (protagonist from Resident Evil 2) who works for the government. You're assignment is to save the President's daughter who has been kidnapped by some crazed cult hidden away in an old mountain village in Spain, Europe.

The graphics in Resident Evil 4 are certainly good from a PS2 standpoint, however when they are pitted against the graphics of the original GC version, its quite plain to see theres a slight difference in textures, water and colours, but you really will not notice this unless you take the time to set up a GameCube next to your PS2 and compare the two closely.

Sound is good and boss battle music really contributes to the action very well. Some of the dialogue can come around as a bit cheesy sometimes and it can remind you of some bad B rated horror movie, but it you can look past some of the lame script you'll find some superb voice acting

There is great value in Resident Evil 4 after you finish because you unlock a sort of minigame featured in both the GC and PS2 version of the game called 'The Mercenaries' which features five characters that should all be familiar to the Resident Evil fan. All these characters are unlocked in succession when you complete a certain stage on a certain difficulty in a certain period of time. When you complete all four stages and complete them with a five star ranking for each of the five characters, you receive a special weapon unlock that can be used in the main game. What sets this version apart from the GC version is the other big extra it has; a side mission where you play as Ada Wong. Ada Wong's campaign isn't anywhere as long as Leon's, however it still does provide a couple more hours playing time and relates alot more to the previous Resident Evil's with the small plot it follows about how Albert Wesker has sent Ada Wong into the village to steal a Las Plagas sample to create a new biological weapon to rival a network of other companies in hopes of taking control of what Umbrella once had.

Along with great music, chilling graphical atmosphere, and a whole new array of evil demented monsters, this Resident Evil is right up there as one of the best survival horror games I've ever played and I suggest that all fans, not just of the survival horror genre but also of the action and adventure should get this game because it truely is a great game.
