Just what the series needed...

Resident Evil 4 may not seem like a Resident Evil game at all... at first. At the start of the game, you see a familiar face, but things quickly turn unfamiliar. You are introduced to a new, very smooth over the shoulder perspective and complete control of where you point your gun. So where does the horror come from when you can competently aim? In addition, the first enemy is clearly not a traditional zombie. He speaks and puts firewood in the fireplace. Even as he charges at you and will not die even when shot in the head, his reactions to damage just don't jive with what you're used to from other games in the series. After this scene, however, things take a turn for the frightening. These villagers start coming out of the woodwork and quickly surround you. You are forced to react quickly in order to survive. Resident Evil 4 has many moments like this. You need to constantly be on your toes, with unreal enemies after you at every turn. Not to worry, since you will be seeing more RE type fare for enemies later on (the Iron Maidens were particularly frightening). Boss battles are epic, and the weapons fun to use. The upgrade system implemented gives the game a bit of an edge. My ONLY gripe was that there were no classic RE zombies. I would have loved to be able to shoot them with this new precision.
