An amazing new turn for this classic horror series.

As a fan of the original Resident Evil, I've been a follower of this series for a long time with my favourites being Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X. But then this game shows up and beat the crap out of any action horror game I've ever played. This is action horror at its best, and it lights a bright light for the future of this genre.

In this game we follow Leon, the hero from Resident Evil 2. He is now a special agent for the Unitid States government and is on a mission to save the presidents daughter, Ashley. The games take place in a god forgotten village in Spain and its outskirts.

The new gameplay is top notch. The camera now follow you from behind your shoulders, it took a little getting used to, but it works so much better than cameras in other RE games. Also the controls are far beyond any other RE game, more responsive and more intuitive. It's a great addition that the surroundings are more interactive. No more auto lock in fighting mode, but instead you aim with laser. The AI is splendid, instead of soggy zombies dragging their limbs trying to eat you, the enemies are now fast and smart. They ambush, work in team and trick you in several ways. Some come after you with hay forks, while others throw molotov cocktails at you. There is also a chainsaw guy, wohoo! The game is very challenging, and in big parts of the game you will be dragging Ashley along and it is your job to protect her.

The graphics are some of the best I've ever seen on the playstation 2, right up there with games like god of war, devil may cry 3 and silent hill 4. The textures are amazing, and everything looks realistic, you "believe" everything you see. The animation is also fantastic.

The sound is top notch, with a lot of fantastic voice acting. There are also a bunch of real time voices on the enemies, enabling them to call out for backup if they spot you. The ambiance and music pieces follows the high production values of the game.

There's a lot to do in this game. In addition to the lengthy main adventure (about 20 hours first time through), a playstation 2 exclusive scenario is unlocked when you finish the game. There are also battle modes, alternate costumes, unlockable weapons and etc.

This is the best game in the series, and it takes the RE series to new heights. If the slow Resident Evil gameplay has put you off, you can rest assured that this game will baffle you with totally revamped gameplay. I recommend this game to everyone, and especially the faint hearted! It's scarier, bigger, prettier, uglier, faster and more entertaining than any game in the series.
