This is what RE games should be like...

...because lets face it, there hasn’t been a great RE game since we were graced with RE2. You can say Code Veronica was a good game; but it didn’t feel like a RE game. Well, rest assured, RE4 is here to solve your problems. First of all, RE4 fixes the control issue most of us had with previous RE games...now the controls feel a bit more like a first person shooter, and yet, keep the controls in a way that it’s also perfect for RE games. If you never played an RE game before, then rest assured, controls take about 10 minutes to get use to! That old "door opening" is gone, and so is loading time; instead the chapters are divided up, so you don’t have to deal with loading. This game however, introduced button sequence mode; similar to Shenume games; the deal is, you have to press a combination of buttons during certain cut scenes (to avoid a knife being thrown at you, or to dodge a rock)...I guess its there so that players feel a bit more interactive with the game. Graphics in this game are amazing; because almost everything is well detailed, and has a high polygon count. If there was one bad thing about the whole graphics deal, I would have to say it’s those "paper" (notice the distance in the farm, and graveyard); and you barely even notice that. Everything is crystal clear, as you see enemies with torches charging at you, or wondering through the empty hallways of the castle...reminds you a lot of the original RE; and believe me, every step you take, you can literally feel your heart beat, it’s that tense! Sound is pretty good in this game, it doesn’t sound chilly as the first RE; but once you face the enemies, it’s the perfect reason why you shouldn’t play this game at night. You will hear cracking-fire, footsteps, wind, birds, doors opening, and even enemies "breathe"...all those elements blend in so well for a very terrifying atmosphere! Turn on the surround sound, and you will know what I am talking about. Unlike the previous games, RE4 doesn’t have a difficulty setting...making the game about 1000 times harder! This game is no joke; you learn that lesson when you face the first set of enemies. They will throw weapons at you, charge at you with a chainsaw, and they come charging in groups...and if you take more than 3 hits, you are dead (chainsaws and others can kill you in just one strike)! But you can make the game a little bit easier, because there are boobies traps, and other things in the environments that you can use to your advantage...you can lure the enemies near a explosive barrel, and when they come close, shoot the barrel (or take on all 10 of them), and problem solved! If there was a big complains about this game, I would have to say it’s those "button-sequence" mode things. RE4 is an action game, you want to control the character with a joy stick...not press combination of buttons to that he could run a bit faster, or dodge falling rocks. I just don’t see the point of it, and if you don’t get it right, most times the game will end for you right there. Anyways, I beat the game once and don’t plan on beating it again after that disappointing ending. The story isn’t anything to brag about, it’s a pretty good story (you can pretty much tell what happens "next"), but its nothing like engaging-and-twisted-MGS3 type story. After you beat the game, two different modes do appear, and they should keep you busy for couple of hours. I don’t see much of a replay value other than this; but it was good while it lasted. Overall, I've been very impressed with RE4; and I think it’s truly the best Gamecube game ever made. There is just more than one way to kill you enemies, and once you start to play, you want to come back and beat the game...it’s that good! If you are looking for a challenge, some good looking graphics, great sound, and just pure fun; then make no mistake about it, RE4 is your game!
