Yes, another Resident Evil game. But don’t expect the same old formula used over and over again. Resident Evil 4 has redefined the series in a whole new way, making it twice as better. Not only does it control better, but it's way more exciting, instead of shooting those boring zombies over and over again. I’ve certainly enjoyed my share of beating the game, and I know the majority of people will absolutely LOVE this game, as it’s certainly THE best this gaming generation so far. Leon S. Kennedy—the cop who made an appearance in Resident Evil 2—is back in yet another crazy adventure. But this time, he’s not going as a cop, as he is now a U.S. agent on a mission to save the President’s daughter Ashley, who has been kidnapped and taken to a mysterious village in Europe. When Leon arrives at the village, he notices that the villagers are not zombies, and have some sort of strange power. They aren’t dumb either, as they’ll work together and use tactics to corner you. It’s certainly tough, so you’ll have to use certain strategies to be able to take them out. The boss fights in the game is probably one of the best varieties ever. You’ll be on a boat, which is attached to a giant monster-like fish, El Lago, and you’ll have to throw the sharp metal objects that are on your boat to be able to hurt it. It’s certainly a fun boss to fight. The most recognized change in the game is the actual controls, as well as the camera angle. The camera is behind Leon at all times, making it easier to aim your gun with a precise laser. You can also do quick turns incase an enemy is behind you. One of the appreciated changes is that you don’t have to reload by combining your ammo with your gun in your inventory anymore. Just hold R and press B, you can reload! You can also take out your knife quickly, without it taking space in your inventory box. It becomes very useful, as you’ll be breaking boxes to find certain items. Another great addition is the Action button, which lets you do many things to help you in combat. Let’s say you shoot your enemy in the stomach, and then he is stunned for a bit. Just go up to it, and when the A button appears, press it, and you’ll end up doing a roundhouse kick on him. You can also jump out windows or knock down ladders, preventing your enemies to get you. You can also do counter-attacks, which makes you twirl the control stick and either kicking or elbowing your enemy. When in combat, you can shoot different parts of the area to stop your foes. For instance, shooting their leg will make them fall to the ground, giving you the advantage to run away or get in a better spot. You should also use your ammo carefully, as sometimes you’ll run into ammo shortages. And if you’re tired of the same old weapon, why not buy a new one? That’s right; you have the ability to buy your weapons from a mysterious merchant that appears in different locations. When defeating an enemy, they’ll usually drop PTAS, which is a certain amount of gold. You’ll use the gold to buy weapons and upgrades. From handguns to shotguns, even a rocket launcher, there’s a good variety. You can even buy a health spray, even though it’s quite a rip-off. You can also upgrade your weapon, with stronger firepower, more ammo capacity, or even faster reload times. You are also able to sell certain items to him, incase you’re low on money. Another good change, which makes the game a bit easier, is that there is no use for ink ribbons anymore, which allows you to save as many times as you want. Ah, the graphics are truly wonderful. The environments are so real, giving a creepy feel to the game. The water effects are very realistic as well. The character models are well done, too. As for the cut-scenes, they couldn’t have looked better. It feels like you’re apart of a movie, with such realistic movement and action. As usual, the sound for a Resident Evil game must, in some way, freak you out. Resident Evil 4 still has the tune to make you sit on the edge of your seat. Even when you’re saving in a typewriter room, you’ll hear a soothing and relaxing tune that makes you want to stay in there for a bit longer. The sound effects of the weapons are still great, making it a realistic feel of actually holding a gun. The voice acting is surprisingly good, since I expected cheesy voice acting. Overall, this is my third favorite game of all time. Yes, it’s that good. It certainly exceeds the hype and turns out to be one of the best action-adventure games ever. The replay value is certainly high, as you’ll want to play through the story over and over again. You even unlock two mini-games. One is called The Mercenaries, and your objective is to eliminate as many enemies as you can before the time runs out. You’ll also be able to unlock different characters to play with, which have their own unique inventory. You’ll also unlock different kinds of weapons that will be available to purchase on your next game. Resident Evil fan or not, you MUST get this game. You’re certainly missing out if you don’t.
