Plenty of mayhem in an open-world, third person action adventure will satisfy any fan of massive destruction.

User Rating: 8.5 | Red Faction: Guerrilla PC
Red Faction: Guerrilla arguably provides the most destructible environments in the history of the Red Faction franchise. The game is back in Mars and it is yours to wreak havoc on from start to finish. The story sort of takes a backseat to the destruction of the buildings and other structures. In addition, the PC version includes the Demons of the Badlands missions that are available separately in the console versions. This is the best iteration in the Red Faction series, although frame rate and crash problems keep it from being a classic.
The physics engine is really impressive as buildings, smokestacks, and bridges collapse in a realistic manner when you destroy them. You can use the sledgehammer, rockets, and mines to cause destruction. Vehicles are also bound to blow up during your battles with the Earth Defense Force (EDF). It is also realistic and fun to see structures fall in different ways.
The story is basically focused on Alec Mason, a member of the Red Faction whose long-term goal is to liberate Mars by liberating six sectors. The guerrilla actions are side missions that add plenty of replay value. These missions include hostage rescues, demolitions masters, and EDF assaults to protect Red Faction territories. The AI is smart and overly aggressive, requiring you to find cover whenever possible. An important benefit of destroying structures is the ability to collect salvage, the game's official currency. Salvage is necessary for Alec Mason to purchase new weapons and weapon upgrades.
There are plenty of opportunities to drive vehicles in the story missions and guerrilla actions. The vehicles handle realistically, but they can be problematic on the rock roads of Mars. They are plenty of fun as many of these vehicles carry turrets. Vehicles that are great for combat include the mech-like walkers that are used against many EDF soldiers and vehicles. However, the walkers are relatively rare and they made me feel like they should have been more frequent.
The Demons of the Badlands adds a few more hours of gameplay to Red Faction: Guerrilla. These missions require you to play Samanya instead of Alec Mason. There are more opportunities to cause mayhem and the story feels like a prequel to the story of Alec Mason and the Red Faction. Samanya appears in Red Faction and she appears in the safehouse to help you with your purchases. In Demons of the Badlands Samanya is just as tough as Alec is and is just as fun to play.
There are problems with crashes and frame rates. The latest patch still does not address the aforementioned problems. Many times the game would crash spontaneously which made the game less fun. On some occasions the frame rate would slow down to an FPS of 8 or 9 during the most intense skirmishes. A smoother frame rate would make the most intense firefights more manageable and entertaining.
I would recommend Red Faction: Guerrilla to any fan of the Red Faction series. It is the most entertaining iteration due to the vast freedom you have to cause destruction all over planet Mars. This game could have been a classic if not for the annoying glitches.
