"Red Dead Revolver does not disappoint in providing an old-fashioned arcade experience."

Rockstar’s Red Dead Revolver is a simple straightforward western-themed shooter that’s actually loads of fun. It brings back memories of old-school shoot ‘m ups with uncomplicated gameplay. Its story is a simple revenge story that does not deviate too much from a Sergeo Leonne film. What captivated me most was the manner in which it was done. The characters, the levels and the graphics are all heavily styled – even the graphics have a grainy effect emulating that timeless film quality. It is also important to note that soundtrack is fantastic. In these respects, Rockstar never seems to disappoint and seems to be a trademark stance within the developing house. The gameplay consists of a basic linear 3rd-person shooter in which you can duck and wall stance for cover. It also has a nice feature called “dead-eye” which slows down time in order for you to aim and shoot up to six targets (a little like “bullet-time”). Every so often, you’ll get to dual which uses a similar approach to the “dead-eye” – these sequences are incredibly fun. You will also get to control different characters – good and bad – throughout the game and each have a feature similar to “dead-eye”. As you progress (and depending how well you played) you will have the option to purchase weapons, multiplayer content and journal content. The multiplayer can also be quite entertaining. Each character has a unique ability. Every time you down an opponent a card appears above the corpse that you’ll have to collect for health, weapons and to win the game. There are a few problems with the game though. It can feel a little too linear and scripted at times, but that can be forgiven because the game does succeed at immersing you in the Wild West experience. The graphics are not technically great by any means, but I scored it high in this department due to the wonderfully artistic and stylish nature of the design. There are some bugs in the game in which sometimes an enemy might get stuck and allow you to simply shoot at him until he dies. Nothing’s perfect. When all's said and done, Red Dead Revolver does not disappoint in providing an old-fashioned arcade experience.
