Red Dead Redemption takes open world games to a whole new level and does so with great success.

Red Dead Redemption is, in my opinion, the greatest open-world game to ever be created. It takes a bit of the formula from Grand Theft Auto IV and sets it in a new place with better shooting mechanics. The Wild West has never been portrayed so well in a video game. Everything around you feels completely alive and functional and you never know what you will run into next. The random encounter system makes for some good moral choices and helps to immerse you in the game even more. The characters are believable and you want John Marston to succeed. John's story is the best Rockstar has ever made and it will keep you gripped until the end. The story is very lengthy and there are hours of side missions and just plain random fun to be had with this game. This is one of the only games I had a great time with completing 100% of the way through. Red Dead Redemption is hands down the best game I have ever played.
