Who would have thought that 1911 and zombies would go together like salt and pepper?

Have you ever played a game and thought "Wouldn't it be funny if this had zombies infested with it?" I have, I'm sure you have and that's exactly what Rockstar has done. With Undead Nightmare, Rockstar puts you into the feet of John Marston. A zombie plague has, overnight turned most of the general population into zombies. Even Johns wife and son are infected. After tying them up, John sets off to find a cure.

When we arrive at the doc's all hell has broken loose. Zombies roam the streets, people take refuge on roofs trying to fight back, and the only economy that remains are bullets. The thing that makes this funny is that nobody can take it seriously. Retired gunslinger, Langdon Ricketts, casually walks around pulling out his revolver on the odd occasion and shooting a zombie in the head. Even West Dickens who is up to his usual tricks claiming that his tonic can cure the undead, jokes about on the odd occasion.

On to the gameplay, the main objective is to survive. No really, it is to survive. Ok, maybe you do have to find a cure, but most of the time you'll find yourselfs popping the heads of undead skulls and messing about. Ok, I'm sure you want some more info. Let's go for it.

In every town or gang hideout you will usually find survivors on the roofs defending themselfs. They will ask for a certain type of ammo which with each giving will make the town safer. Once the safe meter is full, the rest is in the hands of you, clearing off the undead stragglers. Once you do that, you'll have a place to rest your head for a while. You'll also have ammo boxes which is useful in a situation like this. The zombies come back though. They always come back... This on it's own is fun most of the time.

If you're feeling like cracking some more heads after clearing some towns then head over to graveyards. These will be a sort of equivelent to gang hideouts and be full of the undead. If you manage to burn all of the coffins in the hideout, then the graveyard will be cleansed and the infection will be reduced for one day. You won't normally be doing this as some are a challenge and you won't normally notice the reduction in infected.

If you're still bloodthirsty, then head over to tall trees. Did I mention that there were Zom-Bears in this game! Not to mention Bigfoot, cougars, wolfs and bats? Infected animals with are slightly harder than normal animals. They can't be skinned so hunting is simply for sport. You won't be doing this that often, though it can be a nice break from the undead.

Afterwards you can show your good side. If you go to a spot that hasn't been infested like fort mercer, then there will usually be posters up of people missing. You have to go and find them and save them. It's the equivelent of bountys really. It sometimes can be good if you're low on bullets as you are rewarded with them a lot of the time.

Undead nightmare also hosts a set of challenges. From cracking zombie skulls to breaking the for legends of the apocalypse. Completion of all of these will unlock the legend of the apocalypse outfit.

Speaking of outfits, 3 make an appearence. The one I mentioned, the Legend of the Apocalypse, the Zombie Hunter and the BedSuit. They all look ragged and cool in their own way.

There are also new weapons aswell. The torch sets fire to zombies which kills them after a while. The Boom Bait attracts zombies then sends them to hell. The Blunderbuss is a one shot rifle which uses undead body parts as ammo. Then there's the holy water, which is a sort of fire bottle for zombies.

Since the store owners have been zombified, there are no stores. You have to find (or make) your own items.

Overall, this game is highly addictive. I mean, who would have thought that 1911 and zombies would go together like salt and pepper?
