Red Dead Redemption is more than wild-west GTA, it shines out among many and proves itself as one of the greatest games.

Although I didn't play the first installment of this series, I was quickly immersed in the strong backdrop and storyline that follows a character named "John Marston". He is forced to leave his family and work for a U.S agency that requires him to track down and kill his members of his old gang. Although the first couple of missions may seem tedious, once immersed in the action of Red Dead Redemption I found it hard to stop. The combat system is much more refined that GTA 4, both in and out of cover. There are a fairly wide variety of weapons to choose from and many types of transport in horses. Not forgetting the beautiful scenery of the drought stricken lands of the west, both daytime and nighttime, rain or shine, the world of Red Dead Redemption is truly spectacular. Next to the main storyline, it can appear slow at first and at times predictable, but once it gets going the main story of this game is one of the highlights. It pulls on your heart-strings and draws you into the desperate plea of John Marston to find these men. Despite all of this, I was left wanting more from the game. Luckily, the stranger missions, stranger encounters, outfits, gang hideouts, mini games, bounties and the fun of shooting either wild animals or people satisfied my huge hunger for more. The amount things to do besides the main storyline is there for those who want it, and can be left alone for those who don't. Unlike GTA 4, getting 100% is achievable yet still difficult enough to have a sense of satisfaction upon completion. Overall, Red Dead Redemption stands tall among many poorly refined "wild west" games and is a must have game for all fans of great graphics, brilliant storyline and fun extra content.
