Honestly, I really enjoyed this.

Recettear, in my opinion, is a success. That is, it probably succeeded in what it was trying to do. The game promised something new, and it delivered.

Well, somewhat new anyway. You, Recette Lemongrass, have the unfortunate fate of having to pay off your father's ginormous loan. But not without some help. Soon, you find yourself teamed up with Tear (a fairy) who aids you in your quest in running an 'rpg-store' (full of weapons, accessories, and all the like).

Sounds simple right? But for some reason, the game is surprisingly addictive and fun to play. For starters, the dialogue is spot on. Authentically humorous with good word choices/timing. Also, the characters are charming or just downright -cute-. C-U-T-E, oh goodness. The Japanese 'kawai' is abundant here, seething through every pore.

Not only can you run the store (sell high, buy low), you can also go dungeon crawling with certain adventurers. Although I found this to be somewhat underwhelming, it isn't bad in its own right. There are still a myriad of characters/skills to choose from, and the dungeon design is far from terrible, although not altogether impressive.

Where the game shines is how the economy works. Making money is addictive, and the background story only deepens the fun. Even after the game was finished, I was tempted to continue into 'new-game-plus'. When I first began this title, I had no idea it could be pull me in to that extend. What a surprise.
