Rayman: An Odd Fellow's Debut

you know, i love Rayman Origins & Rayman Legends, hell, they're some of my favourite games of all time, with the challenging, well-controlling, & satisfying gameplay. now put that in 1995.

the soundtrack is amazing, mostly, with my 2nd favourite celebration jingle in a game. but the controls feel rather dopey before you get the punch ability. & the movement feels rather slow, not to mention some pretty flat level design in Pink Plant Woods. you adapt to it, but it still deserves a mention. wow, i though i liked this game. but at least, they utilise your abilities. and Rayman has no arms, just magic glove hands, meaning he quite literally throws a punch. the level design gets interesting in Anguish Lagoon, AKA "Pink Plant Wood Part 2", & the creaking when the plums swing drives me mad. then we have a pretty good boss fight with a pink mosquito, we beat him, he starts crying, & now we're friends, & we fly on his back. yay. & this section is fun, but also rather awkward. & now we can hang on ledges. yay. The Swamps of Forgetfulness is, hey look i got a seed. this is because we need to plant flower platforms to escape rising water. it's a pretty fair, fun, & frustrating challenge, & the music does well to tell you you're being chased, well, the soundtrack is just great anyway. the frustrating part is the clunky hit detection on the guys who shoot hoovers. (vacuum cleaners, for anyone outside of the UK) but yeah, pretty good mini-stage. then more Pink Plant song, then Moskito's Nest, which also has more Pink Plant song. then i game over, & part of me is kind of glad because this game was getting tedious, even though i wanted to go to Band Land. i'll be coming back, but this game ain't very good. but it isn't that bad either, which means it gets the same score as Tekken 2, 5/10. will i have to talk about Rayman 2 now? please don't hang me.
