How does one rate perfection?

User Rating: 10 | Ratchet & Clank 3 (Platinum) PS2
After the first Ratchet & Clank dove into the PS2 line up of platforming games, you knew there was something special there. Hours of nonstop action, a very effective storyline, coupled with some bizarre gadgets and weapons. This third edition into the Ratchet & Clank series is no exception. Simply one of the best games in the genre that continuously follows a very well developed plan of execution. Sticking with the basic engine, Up Your Arsenal is not graphically different from any of its predecessors. Although there are some tune ups here and there, most of the environment has pretty much stayed the same. The arsenal continues to grow and become more outrageous. What other game do you know of where you can turn your enemies into sheep? How does a game developer like Insomniac continue to improve upon the game? First, there is multiplayer. Stop right there. WOW!!!! Split screen multiplayer is insane. My friends and I were playing just that for hours. I can not even remember the last time I had that much fun from a platforming / action game. Add to this an eight player multiplayer mode while on a broadband connection, then you have what I like to call Ratchet Wars. This was something that was just completely unexpected, overwhelming, and absolutely one of the best features I have ever seen in this genre. The six new levels specifically for online play are definitely team oriented. Nothing like a little bit of 'Capture The Flag' games with a bunch of friends, or online gamers, to make the time fly by. The second improvement would have to be the mini-games. The best ones hailing from the platforming adventures of Captain Quark. These games are obsessive. If you remember the yester years of a 2D perspective and subtle sound effects, you will feel right at home. Be aware of Captain Quark vid-comics scattered throughout the game, as that will be the only way you can unlock these stages of the game. So be on the look out, because you will not want to miss out on the fun. Third, the missions throughout the game are so altered from what you are normally expecting in a platform / action game, that it is utterly astonishing. Returning are the infamous swimming quests, with some new free falling experiences, ship missions, and cannon destruction moments. With so much dull repetitiveness in such other games, it is perplexing to see how imaginative these scenarios can be. A lot of developers could use some creativity from the Insomniac team. Simply put, get your hands on this game. You will not be disappointed.
