This has been the R-Type game that I've been dreaming about. One that takes an old-school shooter and combine that with beautiful graphics and a zillion different types of power-ups and for a mere $30 bucks when it first came out. But the strength behind the game is the gameplay. They learned from previous R-Type games not to make the mistake of starting from the beginning but to let the player continue on the same area that they died in. That is a plus first of all and enhanced the game so you aren't screwed that you just spend a couple of min. on a particular area and having to do it all over again. The ships are also customizable which is another plus. The different types of weapons are very creative and replay value is super high. Negatives....hmmm...I can't find any. In fact, it blows away all the competition. I somehow always put R-Type Final as the standard now. There hasn't been a shooter that comes comes...the only other shooter that tried to enhance old-school is Gradius V (also a good shooter).
