I think si a big fail to say "busted graphics" in a game that is DELIBERATELY made with low-grade graphics.

Are we really so obsesed about the damn graphics it that technology > fun and deptyh of gameplay?. REALLY hope not...

Meh, many strategy oriented games have a steep learning curve, it's part of their charm imo. I'll definitely be getting this, big fan of the first two.

Yay, finally got disgaea 3... I love the gameplay... don't bother about the graphics... it's true, it's not meant for ps3 but anybody with PS3 and loves tactic games should get this... but they should have made a PS2 version so those fans with only a PS2 can play this...

    I want to get it - I just don't!

Nothing of what I have seen explains the attraction to me.

What is it that draws me to super complex games? *sigh*
Looks very interesting. I might get it.

The graphics really don't matter in a game like Disgaea. As long as the units are discernible, it doesn't draw anything from the gameplay.

He makes a good point. I can see how newcomers would be confused by all the things you have to do (eg Item world, Evilities and using mana, the Classroom etc). But easily the best Disgaea game yet

hi all im just wondering im new to this game is it worth me buying it because i hear its suposed to be hard to understand for a newbe? becaude i really would like to play

  • Sayun

I love this game so much. I can understand why some people can have a hard time to get into it, because it's more complex than ever before. But once you get over that 'hurdle', you come to enjoy the complexity and depth of the system, like playing with the Puppy Paw Stick.

About the graphical part.. Yes, I can see it's dated. Everyone who loves the game knows this. However, it has loads of charm, and I wouldn't want it any other way. This is how a Disgaea game is supposed to look like, and if you can't accept the graphics, you're probably too narrow minded to appreciate the system anyway. This game proves graphics isn't everything, or even important in some cases.

Looks very good. I may want to see if I can check out the others first, but I will probably end up getting it anyway.

Although I am a huge fan of the Disgaea series and greatly enjoyed this game; I think if people are honest a little bit of a visual update would have been nice - you can make sprites look really good (take games like Demon Blade / Street fighter 2 HD remix / Odin Sphere).

So I hope when they eventually do Disgaea 4 they actually put some work into uping the textures and animations a little bit; otherwise though this is one of the best tactic rpg games out there.

This game is incredible. Despite the review given or "graphics", it just works. You don't need super duper awesome HD graphics to let you know you're having fun. The sprites are simply retained to mainstay the Disgaea formula and it works! I'm not a fan of the series, having only played the PSP version but this game is very good and I recommend every RPG lover who own a PS3 to purchase this game! For 50 bucks its worth it!

  • trollkind

I love how they had the balls to stick to their style. Most series went ugly on their first conversions to 3D and there is something charming about sprites. It could not run on the PS2, people don't know much about how taxing 2D sprite graphics are on the hardware and Sony isn't know for making consoles with a lot of graphics/shared memory.

I jump for joy since the japanese version came out and can't wait for the day I buy a HD TV, a PS3 and this game, for hundreds of hours of fun and tricky random strategy and some of the funniest yet dramatic dialogues in any japanese game.

Having played am instantly in love. What's with all the complaints? The graphics work perfectly for the game - a lot crisper than ever before, and it REALLY wouldn't work with anything 3D. Vector graphics will be a step into the future, but the redesigned sprites keep the feeling of Disgaea just right for this incarnation. Anyone who says this can fit on the PS1/2 obviously doesn't understand games. This game is FAR too big to be stored on a DVD let alone a CD. The audio tracks alone must be huge. The Japanese voices are a lot less grinding on the ears (yes, I speak Japanese so can understand it - plus there's always subtitles for people who complain that "I can't understand it") although the American dub isn't TOO bad. Semi-newcomer and not put off at all. Loads to do, great laugh and amazing strategy required. Easily worth the $50.

    And agreed with earlier statements - does this dude EVER know what he's talking about? Get out and play the games you're reviewing and talking about ^^;

Its kind of weird, but I learned the ENTIRE battle system off of the one on the PSP. It doesnt have the best instructions, but you can understand it easy enough.

Why do they keep saying "The addition of GeoBlocks"? Like they weren't in the previous games.

I can't spend 50 on it, even though the game is brilliant. November is bringing the heat when it comes to games = (

Disgaea 3 is for fans of the previous installments. If you weren't able to get into the genre before, this title won't change that.

On the other side, the game should not be judged because "newcomers" feel alienated..
New people can learn how the game works, however Disgaea 3 remains an excellent Strategy JRPG as it did in in last few years.

That's a fact that should be pointed out. It's a very good game that will give hours and hours of role playing. 7.5 is not a bad score, but the this title is worth money to spend on.

They are good games but why wasn't this a ps2 game! They lost a big audience in my opinion! I own a ps3 so I'm not bias but it just would make much more sense from the business side of things!

He makes some good points. The game would have probably received a 9 or higher if he were scoring it only for fans of the series, but factor in everyone else who may play this game and it loses a few points. Good review.
