Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Atlus' upcoming role-playing game for the PlayStation 2, is the third installment in a series that started way back on the Super Famicom. Nocturne will continue the series' setting of a modern-day apocalyptic warzone and will feature demonic overtones and mature subject matter. Set in an alternate reality version of modern-day Tokyo, where nearly all of the world's population has been wiped out by a catastrophe known only as "The Conception," the game focuses on a young boy who will have to battle his way through the many demonic forces that have infested our world and help shape whatever future can be salvaged for humanity.

Depending on the choices you make within the game, you will be able to follow one of several ideologies, which ultimately will determine the outcome of the storyline. You'll be able to customize your character using magatama, living parasites that grant their hosts temporary demonic powers. More than 100 different demons will be in the game, each of which you can theoretically persuade to join your party. Some demons can evolve into new forms or fuse with other demons into new, more powerful forms.

Shin Megami Tensei will also feature a special guest appearance by Devil May Cry's Dante, in yet another crossover appearance for the character. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne is set for release this September. We will have more on this game from Atlus' booth at E3 2004.
