Extremely fun gameplay but needs a work on the presentation part.
Its a fact that gameplay wise Prototype has much deeper and much more combos and weapons than Infamous. Infamous had fewer but sony had it perfectly executed. Gamers need to realize a simple fact here - If a game is of Sony, there is no chance for it to go flop. Prototype as a Sony game would have got a 9.5 because of perfect Graphics, execution and also cough.....the pesos or the dough whatever you call it.
You may be wondering that after so much bickering where the 9.5 rating comes from me. There are several reasons for it. Personally i am little less harsh with my reviews when it comes to non sony games. Maybe one of the simple reasons why i don't like Infamous as much as i like Prototype. Sure Prototype is produced by the great Activision who inturn have produced Legendary franchises like the Call Of Duty which is an FPS. But they have also produced mediocre Third Person Games like Transformers. Its a fact that that Activision is expert at FPS but when it comes to a Third Person its a new territory for them.
Alright. Most of the people who did NOT like prototype had 2 of the most common reasons - CONTROLS and GRAPHICS. Coming to the graphics, the water and tree graphics are outright crap but Alex Mercer, Tanks, Helicopters, Infected and Blackwatch are pretty decent. Now prototype is a game where you WONT have time to watch around trees and swimming is an ABSOLUTE NO NO in this game for some reason. So why need a Good graphic for waters and tree when they are of no use. Its as simple as that. So stop cribbing.
Ah! The controls. Yeah the controls aren't as smooth as expected. But its not as bad as Transformers. The aiming system is not Broken. People simply don't know to play this game. Holding TAB slows down time and you can change targets at your own will. I did get Frustrated while doing the side missions especially the Free Running from checkpoint to checkpoint ones. Yeah and this game is a BIG BUTTON BASHER. My mouse and my keyboard have literally got raped thanks to this game.
Hate the side missions? Don't do it. Simple. People finding this game easy can try out the Hard mode. Its not DMC or NG challenging but its challenging.
Now about the best parts of the game, the gameplay of this game is the best and if infamous got a 9.6 for gameplay in Gametrailers i give prototype a 9.8. You can run around kill anybody, hijack anything (except cars which is unnecessary as Mercer is faster than all the vehicles in the game). The weapons in the game are pretty good. The whiplash reminded me of the Dark prince of Prince Of Persia - Two Thrones. The Blade is leethal. Muscle mass is useless but useful against the last boss and Claws are okay. But the grapple moves of all these weapons never get old. Also the power bomb is an amazing move to watch.
The best and most leethal weapons are the Devastators. Tendrill Barrage and Groundspike is awesome to watch and execute. Critical Pain again is only useful against the bosses.
Okay. Personally these are the simple reasons why i feel this game scored an 8.5 Critics average and not a TRIPLE A. Actually the story of this game is really good but its executed poorly. For eg: Nothing is shown what happens to Karen Parker after Alex approaches her in the lift. There are many loop holes.
The graphics even though appreciated by me is still not upto the mark according to the "Great" Critics and they simply didn't have the patience to handle the controls.
Also the presentation part is lackluster and absolutely blows if you compare it to the presentation of Capcom's games like DMC or RE4. Need to improve the bosses presentation.
I had the patience to complete this game 3 times in Easy, Normal and Hard. I am not saying that this is the Greatest Game ever or something, but its not as bad as some people are saying.
Buy it if you like Only Gameplay and do not care about the graphics or loopholes in story. Rent it otherwise.
Just a request to activision to improve its Presentation of the Story and get more bosses and more kickass weapons in the sequel. GREAT GAME. Game Of The Year so far for me. Can't wait for Prototype 2
