My review of Prototype 2

User Rating: 8.5 | Prototype 2 X360
I didn't expect to buy prototype 2 but when I walked into Hmv for some microsoft points I glanced up the shelf and there it was sitting right above the microsoft points. I had considered buying it before so I thought I may as well give it ago.
Initially it reminded me a bit of Crackdown 2 in the style of game play but it was so much better for one you can glide straight away rather then having to unlock it like in Crackdown 2 and also you can run much faster one you fully upgrade your movement and the ability to run up walls is pretty cool too. You first start the game flying over NYZ or New York Zero in a helicopter. Your helicopter crashes and you are the only survivor you see Alex Mercer and you chase him down the streets of the red zone. You finally catch up and attempt to kill him with a knife he takes no damage from this and instead gives you his virus so become "Evolved" like him. You then wake up in a laboratory and are forced to fight off waves of the infected by scientists, you escape the lab and are confronted by Mercer the man you hold responsible for releasing the Mercer virus which killed your wife and daughter, he however explains to you that it was blacklight that released the virus and he wants you to help him take them down. After that you can do the missions or mess about in free play.
You can come across side missions in the world such as clearing out hives of the infected or collecting boxes that fell out of crashed helicopters completing this missions can make you stronger and eventually you will be able to purchase a new upgrade. As you play through the story you will progress through each of the three islands, but don't worry you can use a sky bridge to return to them whenever you want. The first island you play through is the yellow zone where there are not many mutants and I would say it is the safest zone. Next you go to the green zone which is suppose to be the safest zone but it is worse then the green zone during missions the infected overrun streets and you have to put them down and occasionally you can see infected walking about killing the civilians. The last zone you go to and my personal favourite the red zone. The red zone is where Mercer lives, and it has been completely overrun by the infected who roam the streets there are not many civilians apart from some that can be found seeking refuge on rooftops or those that go around with the army. There are a few blacklight bases there but it is mainly just the ruined city roamed by infected. It is my favourite because the infected are pretty fun to fight epically the more advanced ones like the brawlers.
There are 5 different weapons you can use apart from guns you have claws which look a bit like werewolf claws but with no fur and you can use them to slash at your enemy's they are pretty good and they unlock them early on. Then there are the tendrills which you get just a bit later on they are like tentacles and can be used to do long ranged attacks and to tie enemy's to the floor shortly so you can attack them. The hammerfist is one that I don't really care for because I find them boring they just look like massive fists like the hulk! But you can use them to do some serious damage. Now my two favourites I like these because they look the best in my opinion and they only take up one arm I don't know why but I just like having one army human and one arm weapon. They are the blade which is on the front of the box and can be used for slicing at your opponent. And last but not least the whipfist which is basically a chain with a spike at the end it can reach much further then the tendrills and it can also be used to grab far away objects and bring them to you it is epically useful when trying to hijack helicopters.
You can also use a variety of guns such as grenade launchers and assault rifles. Unfortunately you cannot drive cars but to make up for that you can drive helicopters and tanks you can also rip off turrets from both these vehicles and use them as a gun. Also when you upgrade finisher fully when you mount a tank or a helicopter if you press Y you destroy them instantly.
However the game does not have a very long story and can quickly be completed but it does have a lot of things you can do after play and I do not thing it would bore you easily this is why I would recommend that you buy Prototype 2.
