Prototype 2 is very much like its predecessor, for better or worse

When Prototype 1 came out, personally, I found the game-concept amazing. It wasn't as polished as its brother Infamous, but it was incredibly fun to play. Playing as Alex Mercer, you smashed your way through the city as a mega powerhouse. Infiltrating buildings, calling in airstrikes, highjacking tanks/helicopters, etc. etc. It was just so much fun to wreck havoc. Now along comes Prototype 2. First off, they really botched up the release date. I don't know what they were thinking, but most of the 'hype' was long dead after such a long-delayed release. I almost didn't even play it, it was a complete whim that I did. Secondly, the game is -very- similar to the first. Now at first glance, that doesn't seem like a bad thing at all. As i said previously, the first game was a romp-ride; so much so that I played it three times over. But nothing gold can stay, and eventually, things start to feel old. This was the case with Prototype 2. I felt like I was playing prototype 1.5. Still fun, more polished, good stuff, but overall, still rather 'meh'. The lackluster story definitely didn't do much to help in this department. Also, I found James Heller to be more 'hilarious' than serious; I'm totally OK with swearing, but I felt like he was a caricature of the "shiet mang, Imma pop a cap in yo ass muthu*****" kind of young adult black male, and that didn't really sit well with me in terms of taking the game seriously.

Do not get me wrong, the game was still fun to play (thus, being very similar to Prototype 1). Just trying to emphasize that at the end of the day, the game is rather forgettable and won't really do much of anything new. Ultimately; a good game, but nothing great.
