My Gaming started with the family Commodore 64, the Atari 2600 at neighbor's homes, and whatever arcade machines showed up at the near by 7 Eleven.
I never owned a Nintendo or Sega as a child, but I will say I played them a lot at friend's homes.
The next family computer was a 486, followed by a pentium.
I borrowed a pentium 2 for a while before, dad bought me an AMD based Compaq comparable with a P3. That was soon followed by a Dell Dimension 8250 P4 (which I still own today, albeit a few upgrades. It's really over 10 years old and still has it's first hard disk drive, a Seagate 120 gb.)
My wife bought a GameCube, which made me laugh.
I bought PS3 back in 2008 and a MacBook Pro in 2009.
An my latest game playing acquisition is my PS4.
I like my games to be fun, challenging by not frustrating, deliver new experiences on way or another, and games that have a great story are a plus.
I don't like monthly fees, expensive DLC that should of been in the game to begin with (yes one of my favorite games is guilty of this, weather is a new class or more mission, or an expansions to a short game, games that are so hard you can't get through them without a few dozen tries every seen, saving every 2 minutes and a walkthrough.
From text only games to the visually stunning I have loved my games so very much.
