I like to think of the MotionPlus like this. If the capability had been in the original wiimote, how much more would it have cost? It isn't necessary for most games but incorporating it into the remote itself would cause most gamers to buy something they don't need. It also would be rather annoying if you already have 4 wiimotes and they come out with a new one.
