That would be some feat considering a good number of PS2s were bought just because it was a relatively cheap DVD player. Without that advantage, I reckon its total sales would be more around the PS4's or slightly higher.
Well, it makes sense because MS will make more money from fewer consoles + GamePass subscriptions for a few years than Sony would make from a PS5 for the generation - so while Sony might sell more consoles, it doesn't mean they're 'winning' as a company. But let's face it, announcing that your numbers are less than the competitor's subconsciously tells the customer that the competition is better, even if it isn't - that's probably the real reason.
Mortal Kombat 9 should be higher than 10 but the rest of the list is spot on. I have completed MK1, and IMO, MK11 is a much better game. As much as MK1 has a good story and great visuals, some of its cons compared to MK11 include:
- No Krushing blows (those were excellent and made for more brutal combat).
- No variations for characters - that added a lot of depth and customization opportunities, which is always a good thing.
- Invasions - too grind-ey.
- Rigid and robotic animations - feels a lot like Mk10, but MK11's animations were fluid and perfect.
All MK1 needed to be was MK11 with different characters.
It's not the best model of Van Damme that I have ever seen. Maybe it's the over-the-top Cage expressions that don't fit JCVD's persona. In general, MK11 characters look and are animated better than MK1. Something about MK1 movements that look robotic and stiff - which is a shame considering how good the stages look.
Good, MGS 3 was the only one I never played, so it would be good to play it finally. Now Sony needs to make a PS5 Slim because I have no place for that ugly behemoth of a console in my living room.
