I have an old Desktop with Intel P4 631 Processor, Intel 945 chipset motherboard (Zebronics, Indian brand), 3 GB RAM DDR2 and Intex PSU. I put new Gigabyte GT 710 GPU. It works if the Desktop boots up properly. But sometimes while booting up it hangs up (freezes) and I have to restart the Desktop using button on CPU Case. I think my Power Supply Unit is not powerful enough.

My System Specs are

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit Operating System

Intel P4 631 (Cedar Mill) processor

Intel 945GC (Lakeport-GC) + ICH7R chipset (motherboard is Zeb-945 by Indian brand Zebronics)

3 GB DDR 2 RAM (Two sticks of 1 GB and 2 GB)

Intex Techno Plus SMPS (by Indian Brand Intex)

1 PATA HDD of 500 GB, 1 SATA HDD of 500 GB, 1 Sony DVD Drive

2 80mm exhaust fans

I have bought Graphics Card Gigabyte GT 710 2 GB DDR3 memory.

After putting new GPU, system fails to start sometimes and it hangs. When it starts it worked properly. I used it twice for about 1 to 1.5 hours. But it freezes up many times while booting up. It freezes with a cursor blinking at top left corner. Then it freezes with a blank dark greyish screen. And it freezes up at 'Starting Windows' screen message while my Windows 7 starts. I installed drivers from the CD included. Also without those drivers also the system fails to boot sometimes.

I told my retailer about the problem and he replaced my GPU. I got a new one. But still the problem is similar. So I think I am sure the GPU is not faulty.

I think my PSU is not powerful enough. It is SMPS Techno Plus 450 20+4 Pin Sata, by local Intex brand. On it is written 'Maximum output should not continuously exceed 200 Watts'. Its +12V rail is rated at 18A, +5V at 29A, +3.3V at 30A and -12V at 0.5A.

I called the shop from where I bought GPU. The technician told it is 945 motherboard which is not compatible with new GPU and you need at least G31 motherboard. But I feel it is my power supply which is not enough.

I cannot check the GPU on some other system as I do not have friends nearby. But I am pretty sure the GPU is working so the problem is in my system.

I need help. Is it my power supply unit? Or is it my motherboard? Or is it some other problem.
