Whoa! I don't know about that. The console takes in air from the bottom (when it's vertical) so it's best to leave it horizontal to help with air flow. I don't know if this is foolproof, but my first 360 overheated and it was standing vertical. When I returned it, the dude at Gamestop told me to leave it horizontal because of the air intake location, and because if it tips at al when it's vertical (if something nudges it or something) the disc will press against the laser bulb thing inside and leave a scratch all the way around the disc. One odd thing with my first 360 was that when it got really hot, everything on the screen would be tinged yellow. Also, and this seems to be common, the game would freeze after a couple of hours into playing. This was especially frequent on Oblivion. Also, when I was playing Gears of War, it would tell me about half an hour in that the disc was unreadable. With my new system I have had no such problems (knock on wood). Hope this helps.
