Obvious brag thread is obvious.Gamerkat
Meh, you're right but still. I remember getting a great computer (which is now garbage a year later) and being so happy about it. If he wants to brag a little bit, I don't mine. Nice rig. I'm jealous.

Look on Newegg.com for all the parts. Start with something like this, and adjust for budget.

  • AMD Phenom™II X4 920 Processor
  • AMD 790GX CrossFireX Mainboard
  • 4GB PC6400 DDR2 RAM
  • 500GB 7200RPM SATA-II HD
  • ATI HD4850 512MB Video Card
  • LG 20X DVD Rewritable Drive
  • 600Watts Stereo Speakers

Guys, don't be jerks.

You're computer isn't really meant for gaming. That being said, I can think of some games

  • Counter Strike 1.6
  • Battlefeild 1942
  • Empire Earth
  • Rise of Nations
  • Day of Defeat

I understand that I can instal the mobo with out reformating, however I like to reformat every 6 months to a year just to keep things fresh. This is a good time to multitask.

Okay, so it will work if I leave the hard drive AS IS to begin with. Put in the new mobo, cpu, ect. Then, upon the very first boot, before even getting into windows, put in my windows CD, reformat my drive, and do a clean install?

Okay, so I am buying a new motherboard to replace the one I currently have. I am going to wipe my harddrive and perform a clean instal but I'm still confused. I don't think I will have issues with the pysical instal, but do I wipe my harddrive before I instal the new mobo? After it? Will it come with a bios that just isn't updated?

Just a tutorial or any help you can offer, assume I know nothing (because I probably don't). Thanks!

If it makes a difference I am also going from intel to amd (not looking for a battle, I'm just not sure if that changes anything).

When looking for a PSU don't fall for the 800 Watt ones. You never really need 800 watts, and having a ton of watts doesn't mean a quality PSU.

I have a Corsair 550 watt and it handles anything I throw at it.

Corsair and OCZ are quality brands.

I have two builds, all around the same price point (all at MAX budget, soI can't get an X4). I also have toget a new MoBo (my old one is fried) with either build.

The first one is a Core 2 Duo E8400 Build:

The second is a Phenom II X3 build:

I'm interested to learn more, so please tell me WHY one build is better.

Thanks
