After reading this review AND having played the game for a solid 5 hours last night, I can only conclude that Kevin Van Ord's negativity surrounding Resi 6 is entirely misplaced and that the review is the work of inept muppetude (check the Scrabble dictionary if you're unconvinced by that one lol) of the highest degree!

So the question is, what WAS he thinking when he wrote this? I can only assume that he is one of those stuck-in-the-past types who still gets hung up on how the Resi gameplay of old (namely 1 through 3 and the other iterations therein) has been left behind as a bygone era... OK I'm sure he enjoyed 4 because after all who didn't, right? But then didn't I just play the first few chapters of Resi 6's Leon campaign and marvel at how reminiscent of 4 and indeed 2 and 3 (escaping from the zombie infested streets of Raccoon City and Gothic backdrop of the Salazar empire come to mind) these last few chapters have been? Yes indeed is the answer to that question! In fact everything about the Resi 6 I've played so far has been exactly what I've come to love and expect from the series so far and it has not yet disappointed.

Yes, I am a big Resi fan and have been since the good old days of the mansion trawling action on the PS1, but what I see in the series is a natural evolution that very much fits in with the progress we've seen in hardware development and the cultural zeitgeist of gaming. Of course, moving through a creepy mansion full of zombies while wrestling with the claustrophobia of fixed camera angles and limited slow-moving controls was indeed tense, scary, challenging and NEW (from Mattel hehe!) but things have certainly moved on since then. Lately, I have still very much enjoyed playing through Resi 3 on my PS Vita and it is still as good as it ever was but it doesn't perhaps have the complexity and depth offered by current iterations of the series, and that is just reflective of where we are in the world of gaming now. After all if Shinji Mikami hadn't shaken up the series and given it a new lease of life, would it still be going strong? I can think of at least 6 Resi titles that follow the 'old school' gameplay whereas we are still only at number 3 post the Resi 4 shake up and I for one don't think of that as a bad thing.

So digressions aside, does Resi 6 warrant such a low score? Absolutely not, and the game is certainly not composed of just one Quick Time Event after another. Sure, there might a rogue SWAT van careening out of control down the street, but I was only ever in the wrong place once when that happened and to my mind, it just lent atmosphere to the sense of chaos that the town of Tall Oaks has succumbed to. Perhaps Kevin Van Ord is just rather bad at playing this game if as he claims, he was struck so many times by these rogue objects? In any case the gameplay, story, atmosphere and control/inventory setup is absolutely solid. I've still to play through the rest of the game, but the production values and quality of the product is amazing, and exactly what you'd want from a Resident Evil experience; and between the three campaigns it should satisfy any fans who enjoyed Resi 4 and 5 as much as I did.

I'd say double the Gamespot score and give it a 9.0

@Prosecutor2012 Great to hear you're supporting the game...! I had a feeling there would be a few naysayers out there who would write off Resi 6 but then it's been that way since Resi 4! I've been a fan of the series since the first one and have followed it all the way through to 6, but to me it's just a question of evolution, and a logical one at that. All the Resi games (perhaps with the exception of the on rails shooters) have been a blast, 4 and 5 were incrementally amazing and I don't doubt that 6 will differ. Looking forward to it tomorrow, QTEs and all...

Indeed, what a buffoon! The whole premise of multimedia is that it IS in fact MULTImedia, so restricting access to one stream only is akin to shooting yourself in the foot and kissing goodbye to a whole sales demographic!

Sure, I have embraced digital content and I do love a good bit of DLC, but I also love a bit of tangible media and going into a shop to buy a game. I can't see any digitial only collector's editions being that great, can you? It's just like having a good old fashioned book instead of a kindle, or having a good old fashioned book AND a kindle. And therein lies the beauty of CHOICE.

Again, what a buffoon!

THPS HD might be worth a trip down memory lane, but I can only hope it still comes complete with a Sim Mode cheat ;-P

Yep, many things to consider with the upcoming next generation of consoles... who knew 20 years ago that the humble games console would become the multi-faceted multimedia outlet it is today, huh?

More strings to their bows are welcome in my opinion, and I do enjoy the simplicity of plugging my movies hard drive into my Xbox or putting a blu-ray movie into my PS3 when I want to kick back with some cinema, but it's when things get forced down your throats in the form of overblown ads or the potential locking out of used games that I start to get antsy about where this whole multimedia trip is going. And while I do enjoy having the option of buying a used game, I resent the fact that repeated sales of said used game only go to the retailer... even a small percentage of Intellectual Property royalties going back to the game studios would assist in keeping the games industry fertile and allow the likes of smaller independent studios to put out more creative product. What I really don't want to see is a world in which the big name franchises squeeze out the little guys! Who's with me...?

Well the premise is certainly promising but I guess we'll just have to wait and see whether or not the developer hype lives up to the final product. Don't do a Prometheus on us and leave us hanging, huh Gearbox?!

Ah, whatever! I can't see that having a slightly bigger screen than on my existing 3DS would be such a big deal... maybe it'll entice new 3DS buyers but it's hardly as exciting as an extra thumb pad. In the meantime I've got my circle pad pro and my PSVita to quench my thirst for dual analogue sticks and bigger screens ;)

Glad to hear there's some solidarity on the pro-hardcore handheld gaming front... and as with many folks posting here, I agree that although the portable device (read tablets and smartphones) market has boomed over the past few years, it doesn't mean the end of hardcore gaming devices because core gamers are always going to want a portable device that can provide the same gaming experience as home consoles. Every device has its UI niggles but generally speaking these don't tend to get in the way too much because the primary experience is focused on the gaming. And hey, if you get stuck on a game and need to go online for a solution, break out the iPhone and look it up while your Vita game is paused! I have an awesome Galaxy S2 which does a whole lot of good, but it's not what I would call a gaming device and certainly can't hope to fill the boots of my 3DS or Vita. Long live proper portable gaming!

no No NO!!!! Another game which just demeans another "extreme" sport the way Tony Hawk's Pro Skater did (with the exeption os Sim Mode on Tony 2). Let's see more of Black Box's Skate realism and less ridiculous frivolity. This blows...
