I think the banding issue they got on the ps3 in dead space was because they set hdmi to full RGB. Tvs work at limited RGB which only has colors 16-235. So if you set the ps3 to full rgb when it sends the signal to the tv the tv goes like oh crap this color is under 16 what do I do; so it just makes it black. Same thing if its over 235 it just makes it the brightest red, green or blue. In order to get a tv to display the correct color shades it must be set to limited. This is why the shadows didn't show a gradual greying until reaching black it was just like bam light then black. Computer monitors work at full RGB i.e. 0-255. So only a computer monitor or full RGB display can display all 0-255. Just about every single tv out there is limited so 16-235. I'm sure the device they used to capture only works at limited as well. I bet the xbox 360 doesn't even have this setting cause why would it not like it has a blue-ray drive or anything.
