That or gta. Neither are really my cup of tea, though.

@Mercenary848: cuphead is crazy fun. It gave me back that frustrated-but-keep-going vibe. Like an old arcade game but without being cheap. When you beat the levels and bosses you get a real sense of satisfaction because on your first few tries you'd swear it's impossible to beat the boss or level, then when you finally do....its elation. Lol. I have to get a ps4 soon for when shenmue 3 comes out. Which is ironic to say given the overall discussion of this thread, lol.

@Enragedhydra: that's EXACTLY what my post said. If you read the full comment it says I stopped playing 2k and went back to playing nba jam. Reading a post in its entirety isn't rocket science either.

Also, I feel completely off the sports games. I used to buy Madden and nba 2k almost every year. But now they have all this crazy stuff to make it seem more real. Don't get me wrong some stuff is cool buy when I wanna play to build up my player and have to text my teammates, coaches, agent, mom and show up for practice with 5 minute loading screens between each instance it drives me nuts. I got 2k17 and played for 2 hours and all I did was create my player(which I NEVER got the app to scan my face after 20+ tries) and practiced and played one game....one! I've played 2k17 maybe 5 times since. However I been playing nba jam: ofe like crazy since it's bc. Because nba jam is straight fun! Jump in, choose a team and your in the game dunking from the free throw line...no waiting. That is gaming to me. having friends over and ur in the game in about a minute.

I agree. I been gaming for 30 years and this interactive stuff is getting out of hand. It's a connect-the-dots movie. I had been playing the first life is strange game and we went to the friends room (forget her name) and she says something about playing some music. So, I have to find the cds.....then I finally find them (which I couldn't get her to tell me) and I go to the CD player and there's NO POWER. So then I have to find the freaking power strip to flip the switch. All this took like 30 minutes because I didn't know what this meant for the story and if I actually HAD to do it. Freaking fetch quests kill me man. It's sad too, life is strange seemed to have a nice story to it but I don't have that kind of time to run tasks like that which have zero to do with the overall story. However, cuphead and sonic mania have restored my faith in gaming and with Xbox having bc and being able to play ninja gaiden black and other older games has helped me really get back into this generation of systems. 2 years ago I was calling this the worst generation of my gaming life but it has turned around and becoming one of the best, so long as they keep up the old school stuff.

I'm not saying do away with the cinematic stuff, choice is good. Some people love those games. I'm just saying to get back to making games with actual gameplay also so we can mix it up and everyone wins.

I'll give some examples....

I remember when I was 10 years old or so and first saw Mortal Kombat on arcade and thought it was the pinnacle of videogame graphics. I mean, they used ACTUAL actors as the characters. My friends and I would dicuss how amazing it was and cool to see real people in the game and how it couldn't possibly get better. Little did we know that world size, interactivity with the background and lighting were all important factors.

Also, I remember discussing(on these very gamespot boards) when I had an OG Xbox and the 360 hadn't been announced yet so everyone was speculating what features the new consoles would have. I had an idea that the next Xbox would have 5 or 6 disc changer much like CD players in cars at the time. This way you wouldn't have to get up as often to switch out ur most played games. Obviously, with digital becoming the trend, this seems ridiculous. Plus, it would have made the consoles even bigger.

So, there. Curious what you all may have thought about games or consoles at any time that seems ridiculous, or just a bad idea, looking back.

Ninja gaiden black, nba jam on fire edition. I also fire up my dreamcast regularly on Sunday mornings and play NFL blitz, shenmue, nba 2k1. I'd say I play old games more than the new stuff with the exception of cuphead and sonic mania....which are retro style games.

My gamespot account is almost 15 years old also and I, too, used to come when it was videogames.com. I have been a gamer for almost 30 years, started when I was 5 and was blown away when I first saw mario on NES. I will say that the direction gaming is going I could see myself falling off the cliff of new games. I don't think I'd ever stop playing my old stuff (Dreamcast, 360, NES , etc.). Gaming is becoming too business driven and too corporate. I remember the days in elementary of girls making fun of me for playing videogames because they weren't cool back then, but I loved them. Video gaming is in my blood. I miss stuff like game genie, cheat codes and full games made complete at launch. So, yes, I could see myself being driven out of the new stuff simply because of my mentality of games and how they used to be. I will say, though, that sonic mania and cuphead have given me hope that gamers like me haven't been totally forgotten about and there's a clear market to make more like those games since they are selling well. Also, shenmue 3 will force me to get a ps4, so I'm still hopeful of staying on for the ride to see where gaming continues to go.
