I built my first gaming PC in 2016 and upgraded the graphics card this year in 2018

before that, just consoles. A lot of different consoles.

I used some PCs too but they were never capable enough to play anything besides the most basic of games like solitaire and minesweeper. I did have a friend in elementary school that had a PC that could play console quality games

My two best friends mainly like fighting games and we get together to game or do other stuff every couple of weeks on average.

i doubt theres going to be too many great exclusives in the first year or two of the console, Ps3 and ps4 were notoriously slow starters

So you're just saying to buy consoles late? You can certainly do that.

about 2 or 3 years into the lifecycle. for the Ps4 the perfect time to buy it would either of been mid 2015 when the Witcher 3 and Mortal Kombat was out , or in 2017 with Persona 5 and Horizon getting released and GoW 1 year later. So about 1.5 or 2.5 years into the gen.

Thats assuming you have a PC or the previous gen console. If you have nothing then sure, buy a console early.

Not sure how many people would be willing to buy a 600 dollar console . If you pick up an extra controller and a few games that easily gets to 800+ territory. At that point why not just build a PC?

Exclusives. Plus those who prefer consoles and all that.

especially in year 1, **** all those remasters and enhanced editions, so many of the games you could just pick up for Ps3 anyway.

@riverboatron: ps5 won't cost $600.

It's probably going to be $400 like the PS4 at launch

personally id buy a 700 dollar ps5 if it had total backwards compatibility with any playstation game ever (Ps1,Ps2,Ps3,Ps4,Ps5) .

I dont think sony gives af about backwards compatibility though, especially with how well the Ps4 did, its just an unnecessary cost.

I usually get new console a year after launch.

Launch games are usually very poor quality, so there is no point rushing in!

Only console I got at launch was PS1. And the following six months I had like two games to play, because there was so few games at launch!!!

thats the way to go if you're a console person. For at least the past couple of gens the first year titles for Ps3 and Ps4 were not too exciting at all. I remember for the first 2 years I just wasn't terribly interested in Ps4 catalog. Arguably Ps4s best games didnt come out until 2017 and 2018 (Horizon, Persona 5, GoW) and thats over 3 years into its life cycle.

I'd say if you have a good PC you can wait 2 years into a consoles lifecycle. By that point its around middle of its gen and has at least a decent library to chose from.

Theres nothing wrong with buying consoles late, because you have a lot more options for high quality games. Only thing i can think of is if you're a hardcore online multiplayer junkie and you just have to have the latest console to play with your friends immediately (whatever shooters get released in the first year, theres always a few).

Not sure how many people would be willing to buy a 600 dollar console . If you pick up an extra controller , couple of new games, PS Plus one year, that easily gets to 800+ territory. At that point why not just build a PC? or upgrade your current one if you have one.

One thing that changes everything is backwards compatibility. If its actually bc with most ps4 games then people might be wiling to pay a bit of a premium like 499 instead of 399. But 599 is ridiculous for a home console , a lot of their more casual market wont touch that price point with a 10 foot pole.

@Basinboy:

By Feb 1st of 2019 , we're going to have Read Dead 2 , Dragon Quest 11, Soul Calibur VI , Smash Bros Ultimate, Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Kingdom Hearts 3

Just this Fall/Winter in general is going to be great . I think I'm leaning towards just waiting until Smash comes out to buy a Switch , and just wait till sometime Spring 2019 to upgrade my GPU since I dont play alot of PC games that require great GPU (the only ones i can think of ATM is i could replay Kingdom Come Deliverance and the Witcher 2/3 in much better FPS)

For the love of god, DON’T buy a switch.

And DON’T play video games in public. You are asking for it to get stolen.

Why would anyone want to play video games in public? Especially on transit. It is basically asking for you to feel sick and then have someone steal your stuff because you are not paying attention.

Switch is 300 dollars and i see a lot of people on the bus with the latest smartphones that are 600+, also see people with tablets and occasionally laptops

Never seen anyone get robbed in the daytime in this city and theres security cameras on our buses with police sitting at major bus stops
