Cause I really think so. The one game that set this topic off was Haze. Nevermind that it's not a very good game, but even looking at the character designs make me want to cringe. All of the horrible yellow colors and the uniforms make the game look very silly. The characters look more like bumble bees than anything else.

Gears of War was one of the last games I played that had horrible artwork/character designs too. I didn't understand the whole "gears" theme at all, which was complete with "cogtags". Despite being a fun shooter, the story was totally ridiculous and I never felt like I was doing anything other than going around shooting bad guys. I just didn't get it; these were character and story concepts that any 12-year-old with a penchant for videogame violence could come up with.

But of course, there are some exceptions out there. BioShock is amazing. Mass Effect is good, but it has to be; it's an RPG. And there are others, but I'd have to say for the most part, videogame artwork is just awful and silly. A lot of videogame companies just need to try harder.

?!? You guys don't see that it's on slopes of sorts? Like if I move left with "a", I will keep moving slightly left even if I let go of "a". The momentum will carry you a bit, as if you were walking around on ice. It's not 100% responsive like, say, Bio Shock.

Yeah, it's a wierd topic title so let me explain a bit. I'm actually playing HL2 for the 1st time and one of the annoying things about the game is that movement is "slippery", as if you were walking on ice. If you walk foward, you won't stop immediately and you'll "slide" a bit foward before you stop. It's not totally responsived like other FPS. I really hate this, as it makes me feel sick/queasy when I play. Does Episode 1 and 2 keep this gameplay mechanic, cause it's driving me nuts. Especially when the games expects me to do some platforming work.

Actually, the reason why I'm just getting into FPS now is because the graphics have gotten so good that I don't get queasy or headaches anymore. :) I think it has to do with 3-D depth and lighting perception. Unfortunately, HL2 is a little dated and I do get headaches when I play, especially due to the slippery gameplay mechanics. I might have to pass on this one. :(

Yeah, this game has a lot of quirks. I get a whole lot of tearing in this one. And if I turn on Vsync, I get a whole lot of horizontal tearing. The answer? Enabling DX10 (running a 8800gt). Go figure.

Why does V-sync happen? Is it a problem with my monitor refresh rate? Cause I highly doubt that it happens because I have a weak PC. I got a nice Dell 2007wfp, so I'd be dissappointed if it was my monitor...

Cause I sure do. I have no idea about you guys, but I encounter tearing all the time in games. It doesn't sound like people out there really care about V-sync compared to things like AA and AF. Am I the only one experiencing major tearing issues? I'm running an E6750 with an 8800GT, and half-life 2 tears up all over the place on me. Why is this? Can someone tell me the cause of tearing and what I can do to make it go away? Of course, you can just turn on the V-sync but I don't want the performance hit. And for some reason, not very many people out there enable V-sync. Why is this?

One of the things that Nvidia has that ATI doesn't is SPOC, the ability to OC JUST your shader processors. I also know that OCing your SPs give you the biggest boost in performance compared to other parts of your GPU.

So would anyone consider this a significant advantage over ATI? Will ATI cards not be able to OC as well as Nvidia cards? It probably can't without the SPOC feature, and the advantage of SPOC is probably minimal, right? Mostly SPOC is for those that want to get every nick and cranny of OC space, right?

8800GT is probably by far the best card to get right now AND 4 months from now. I was thinking about waiting for a new GTS that is likely to come out in a month, but there's really no reason to. Why would you want to pay more for a better card when this one already handles every game our there beautifully (minus Crysis)? And given that there's no card in the foreseeable future that is going to be able to truely handle Crysis on very high anyway, I'm likely to settle on a GT by Christmas. Now hopefully Nvidia can get more cards out of their factories soon, cause I don't want to be price-gouged at the moment.

Do these disabled SPs cost less to produce at all? If not, then why do it? No sense in saturating the market with different cards if you can just put out one great product...

I'm just still in shock that people with $600 GTX's won't even be able to run a smooth 30 fps with 16x10 resolution on DX10 settings. This game is just sick.
