[QUOTE="mfsa"]as optical drives get faster and faster, and disc capacity continues to grow geometrically (layered blu-ray discs are 250+gb, but insanely expensive), it's just a matter of time before streaming from the disc becomes the standard for pc gaming - it's probably well over tne years off, but it's bound to come, eventually - i can't find a link but i remember reading that microsoft is looking into this very concept for the future of pc gaming
right now though, it's really not necessary - it's rare you find someone with less than 100+gb storage these days (i have 580gb myself) and games are really only just starting to hit the 10gb range, and even then, that's a rare exception
streaming from the hard disk is faster, and of course this means lower grade discs can be used to hold the installation, which cuts costs all round
but there will come a time, probably, when pc games require a small install (perhaps 100mb), and then just stream off the disc... things will be fast enough, big enough and cheap enough that it won't make a difference... just no time soon

thats mostly what I hope for... I would rather just buy games online like through steam where I can keep all the files on my HDD rather than having a bunch of CDs that i have to keep track of. And if something happens and I lose the files, I can easily redownload them :D
