[QUOTE="Dankodefense"]Is it possible for the PS3 to stop recognizing controllers? This has happened to me twice now and they only work if they are plugged in. The first time it fixed itself after a while and now in the middle of the second time I'm posting this. Does anyone know what the problem is here? Or how to fix it? By the way I have 2 original sixaxis controllers no DS. Thanks for any advice.bobcarn
This thread was the first link when I googled this problem. The same thing is happening to me, and it's driving me crazy. I was playing a game and shut down the PS3 using the controller. When I use the controller to start up the PS3 again, both are unrecognized. The PS3 starts up, but the red LEDs on the controllers flash whenever I hit the home button, and continue flashing for a few minutes. If I plug them into the USB cable, they're recognized. If I unplug them again, they go back to flashing LEDs. Once I get them working (which can take 10 minutes), they show a full charge. It started doing it last night, and I plugged them in and unplugged them, and even killed power to the unit. It eventually corrected itself. This morning, it was doing it again (even the bluray remote won't work), but started working after several minutes of trying different things. Now, it's doing it again. I just acquired a 2nd PS3, but it's downstairs. I thought maybe it might be interfering with the one I'm using upstairs, but it's still off and not being turned on by mistake (there's a lot of distance and thick walls between the units). ---edit--- I've been turning off the unit with a controller plugged in. I figure while I'm using the other one, the plugged in one is charging up. Would turning the unit off with one plugged in do something? Anyway, I found a youtube video that helped out. Here's what seemed to work at the moment: 1) Turn off unit with its main power button 2) Plug in the controller in via USB 3) Turn unit on with the unit's power button 4) When it's booted up, press the PS3/Home button on the controller. It will register the controller. 5) Unplug the USB cable 6) Press PS3/Home button again. I did this for each of my controllers, and also re-registered my BD remote control. It seems to work again, I'll find out later if it sticks.

This works for me. Best sollution.
