First....aaahhhh....arcade days!! So much freakin' fun!!! All our worries were to stretch each quarter duration or defeat a buddy (or a complete stranger) in the other controller!! After a while consoles got better and our worries were to beat the game or a buddy. Now it's, physical or digital...new or used...is the DLC worth my time and money? I always thought progress should make our lifes simpler....in the current "game industry" I'm really starting to feel that my hobby is being left aside to generate profit... Maybe my next new year promisse will be to only play vintage games on 2600, NES, Saturn and PS2.
I will begin by saying I have absolutely nothing against CoD or any title. Don't like it, don't play it! Is that so hard? Every comment section I check is so full of people complayning about CoD that it really makes me wonder if only 12 year brats posts comments these days and that's why I'm gonna use it in my example. Now, that said. This gen of consoles is at it's limit, therefore a new gen is needed. The technology is available and they could be produced within a sellable price? Yes, therefore it will happen. This is an industry and that's how things happen. It's the same with music, movies or games. Blockbusters keep the industry alive and indies go wild. Finding ways to better with less ressources. What worries me most is not how many CoDs are released. Couldn't care less. What worries me is how rare is that a game has quality and potential to become a good franchise. If CoD sell so many copies is because people see value in it. I would rather have a different Dead Space game every year but I'm glad they do not release it as the value I see in each game would logically decrease as I would be pretty sure another one was coming soon. The industry needs good ideas that could be made into good games. Show me a good idea, a different approach, a new game mechanic....whatever it is and I'm sure that whoever buys a CoD will also try it or at least be curious to know more about it. And just to clarify...I'm definetely not talking about motion controllers.
I own almost 30 PS3 games...and never spent much time in the whatever online stuff they bring. It has to be really great to make me spent time in "online" when I feel my time is better spent in a good single player campaign/history mode. @ Evil_Sidekick....glad to hear another sane soul that does not support this online bull***t (facebook, twiter, orkut, etc)... I just can't stand this crap. I may not have 5 gazillions friends...but I do have a good number of very good friends and when I want to know how they are doing I do use the phone or (amazing) I meet then somewhere. Just don't dig this "online social thing" but hey...that's just me. Let alone think about buying a game that would mix a good game with this crap....hope the keep it as "optional"...otherwise I will have to play all my games over and over!!!
I own like 20 something PS3 games bought over the last years....not a single DLC tough... They don't seem worth the dolar I would pay for the fun they should provide....not to mention that I also think the DLC should have been included in the disc I already paid for.... Or at least put available for free to extend the life of a game (that again....I paid for...)
