unless a new card comes out to match or preferrably beat the price:performance ratio of my 8800gt, i doubt i'll be upgrading anytime soon. it's a shame that each new model of flagship card is only a bit better than the previous model. i guess it's a marketing thing though - stay in the market with incremental improvements and keep a steady cashflow, rather than disappear for 18months and coming back with a real beast and making a big once off lump of money...

@jeremiah - the close proximity graphics obviously doesn't get near GoW, uncharted, crysis etc, but in terms of scale and application, i think it looks awesome. In which other game has a living virtual metropolis looked so good&fun? but yeah ur probly right, 10/10 might be a bit excited, maybe 9/10?

The feeling I personally get with this issue is that the current generation of board members residing in the OFLC (and other relevant organisations) is part of the problem. That's not to say they're idiots or it's all their fault, but that's the way they are - they stay the same while the environment changes. Until a more recent generation of community minded people move into the right places, people who are more aware of current market trends and better understand gamer demographics, I don't expect to see any drastic changes made to the current system. I do still believe, however, that some change is in need, and the 'need' or 'preference' for this change should be pushed by the relevant parties (including us - the gamers). If an R18+ rating were introduced, games that might just be scraping into the MA15+ rating could easily be classed as R18+ without any costly modifications and/or appeals, leading to more of the strong content games getting rated R. Given the connotations attached to the R18+ classification, especially by parents, this could allow better control of access to questionable content by minors, while allowing reasonable access by consenting adult gamers who wish to view and interact with such content. This is a touchy issue for many, and the fact that few games are actually banned makes it a bit harder to push our perspective. Nonetheless, I believe a change is inevitable. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

I use debian and BSD linuxes (ubuntu & red hat), mac os x, windows xp and windows vista all on a regular basis, and while vista does have it's quirks and annoyances (like everything else - comon they're computers) and generally doesn't have the performance of xp in gaming, I don't think it's really that bad an OS. sure it'll be some time till vista completely trumps xp (...), but IMHO it's a more modern system, and being modern usually leads in a good direction......unless you start talking about the manhattan project or something, but even that ended up leading to something good(ish)...take crysis, that game looks amazing and it's fun to play...then again it just mocks us and our "top-end" harware...i can hear it scoffing at me and looking down on me every time i start it up...
