So the good old days of bringing my game over to my buddy's house for an all-nighter would not be possible anymore? Seriously? Is this what it's come to? My collection is sizable enough, I'll just go back and play them instead of moving on to these systems.

Thanks for the article! Unfortunately, the market is fickle yet predictable, if you make it available someone will buy it. That being said, this trend won't stop until we're buying licenses to play and purchasing the game piecemeal. @Dread318 I'm pretty sure both online and brick&mortar stores purchase those copies from the publisher/developer to sell, so (some of) the money actually does go to the publisher/developer. In the same respect, Best Buy/Wal-mart/Gamestop doesn't make the store specific DLC the developer does per publisher mandate probably. Why? Incentive to buy at their store instead of theirs. I didn't really go after Dead Island, but I haven't experienced a game shortage in a looong time.

I've played since GTA 2 but I vividly remember the first time I played 3. In that first scene where you bust out of the truck and get in a car.....I was playing in my dorm room with my roommates huddled around. I drove the car up the street, running over some people in the process, flipped the car, got out, then preceded to kick a man to death.....we all looked at each other and we knew....things would be different.

DLC is a very slippery slope. I see them wanting to milk their franchises, its good business, but it also allows the developers to half-a** it a bit and fall back on DLC. The Microsoft/developer dispute about charging for DLC the dev wanted to be free is a troubling example as well. One example is the laughable gun decals for Dead Space which is an obvious grab for DLC money. Also, the "missing" 2 memories in Assassin's Creed 2 was SO obvious that charging for it later was a slap in the face. I guarantee that we are being conditioned for unfinished games and status quo DLC add-ons for them. A few years from now our perception of a new release won't even reflect a quality fully featured game and all the while we will be shelling out well over a $100 for a complete experience.
