Just as a final statement to probably let this thread die... haha. I am using an i7, so DDR3 was required. It was an insanely cheap upgrade from 3 to 6 and I wanted at least 4. And no I was just curious, I was pretty sure but needed to be positive. This was brought on by the fact that at Lenovo there was this desktop where you could add 72GB of RAM for like $1000. So I was like wha? can you even tell? But thanks for giving me the fairly unanimous comments everyone.

Hey guys just a quick question. Basically is there an actual measurable (by the human eye) difference between 6GB and 12 GB of DDR3? If there is what about between 6 and 8?

Thanks

Deihmos

It's not even worth moving to 6GB of ram

Well it was only $30 more so I thought there'd be no problem. But I get the point. Thanks guys for answering. :)

Thanks for the help. I'll take out the NIC and look into the motherboard. I am a professional musician so I will be getting a sound card, so would you suggest something better then the audigy?

Alright I'm still attempting my first build, and I'm starting a new thread becuase people would read the completely out of date original post and not know the new info, so here it goes:

.

.

So far I have,

.

.

Thermaltake V9 VJ40001W2Z Black

Intel Core i7 920 Nehalem 2.66GHz

ASUS ENGTX275/HTDI/896MD3 GeForce GTX 275

Antec TruePower Quattro TPQ-1000 1000W

HITACHI 0A38016 1TB 7200 RPM

Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 7.1

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin

LITE-ON Black Blu-Ray DVD Drive & DVD Burner

LITE-ON Black IDE DVD-ROM Drive

Nippon Labs Black 1.44MB 3.5" Internal Floppy Drive

LINKSYS EG1032 10/ 100/ 1000Mbps PCI Network Adapter

.

.

First is anything here seem incompatible, or not a good value? If these are all fine the total using newegg is 1285, and if I use ibuypower for pretty much the same stuff it's 1385 including a motherboard, meaning I think it's cheaper; how is that possible?

.

.

What motherboard would you guys suggest for this setup?

.

Thanks all

[QUOTE="klarius"]

Ive actually switched to a PSI ArmorX. I could get a 750W Corsair or an 800W no namer PSU So an i7 quad 2.66 is better than a core 2 quad 3.0? can someone explain why? This seems completely counter intuitive to me, is it the cache? So what is the final verdict on GTX 275 vs SLI GTX 250?

The Cosair is better, no name PSUs are unstable and often lie about the wattage. . Look here for the CPU charts: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-q3-2008/3DMark-Vantage-CPU,817.html http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-q3-2008/Crysis-1680x1050,818.html The I7 is a better architechture with more databuses

Thanks a lot for those links. helped a lot.
