@WingChopMasta: Thank you so much for sharing and making it extremely obvious in identifying yourself as one of the few very vocal people who know nothing about this subject, and that you are neither a gamer nor rational individual. It's abundantly clear that you only know and are fueled off these few listed details:

1] Company has made millions off something that's not fully created.

2] Company has been working on project longer than their originally estimated time frame.

Side note - "HORRIBLE investments", really? People paid their own personal money for a virtual spaceship. Well guess what buddy, those people are flying those ships now. They literally got what they paid for. How is this a horrible investment? Because you personally don't see the value in it?... Sure, not all ships are flyable, yet. But with every ship they make flyable, the risk of investment goes down.

..geeezzus, just take a moment to actually think please. [and more importantly, do some research.. like, any research, at all... that's recent and relevant]

@rem234: Very very well said. I'm in the same boat as you, on this. Anybody who is interested in Star Citizen, whether it be in a negative or positive way, we're all gamers. Gamers *should* all want the same thing - an awesome game/gaming experience. So, the math here tells me that we should all WANT star citizen to be successful.. Right?... Aside from skepticism towards company ethics and finances, gamers everywhere should WANT to see Star Citizen be all that it's promised, which would make everybody happy and strengthen the gaming industry and community as a whole.

Yet we see people say completely false, irrational, ignorant and hateful things about Chris Roberts and the game, clearly showing that those individuals know nothing about the topic.. which means they're literally hating just to hate. I do not refer or address these individuals as gamers.

And, to clarify, I am not at all saying that we shouldn't be skeptic, especially about things that are not actually created fully yet. I'm just focusing in on the basic instinctual level of 'wants' and interest.

Why I am able to afford this:

Tried it at E3 2015, freakin' blew my mind. I make $14/hr part time (taking college courses). I've had 7 months to save up. Put aside $100 every month, which is extremely doable. Done. Pre-ordered, and happy.

Didn't save up? Can't afford it? Then I guess that's that. Stop causing drama because you don't think it's worth $599. But don't get me wrong, anybody who has NOT tried the Oculus Rift (or equivalent VR experience), I can definitely see being skeptical about the $600 price tag. I'm just tired of people going on huge rants about how this is stupid and totally not worth it, when they haven't even tried it for themselves, so they have no idea what they're talking about.

I pre-ordered!.. Yeah, wasn't too excited about the price, that's for sure.. But honestly, I don't care, I've been saving up money for a very very long time (not just for VR), so I've worked hard and deserve to buy this for myself. But not many people are in my shoes right now, where $600 can be easily spent, so I totally understand the disappointment. Oculus should have hinted it was going to be around this price range, rather than "more than $350".. I personally have tried the Oculus DK2 back in 2014 at E3 and I was blown away.. like really really blown away. Coolest gaming experience EVER.. so to me, $600 is worth it entirely, but mainly because I know what the experience is like and I have the money.. At this price point, it's going to take some time to have this technology be mainstream, but it definitely won't fail. Let's see what the Vive and PSVR can offer in terms of pricing.

@sotired: You seem very closed minded.. First of all, nobody is asking for your money. If you think the game looks cool [thus far], then great, just wait until they are done making it and THEN decide if you'd like to purchase it...

Just so you have a better understanding of crowd funding, here's how it works:

"Hey, I have an idea for this game that I would really love to make, but it's going to take a lot of money to actually complete, especially in a reasonable amount of time. If you also like the idea for this game and believe in me to actually produce it entirely, you can pay for it now to help support the project. If not, that's cool, just wait until it's done."

Nobody is forcing you to pay anything. If you don't trust CIG/Chris Roberts to complete the game, then don't spend anything.. period..

@reavern: Absolutely agree.. It's very unfortunate. The multiple large studios working on this game around the world have produced and shown so much amazing work that's being done [and completed] thus far, it really kills me that Gamespot and so many other game journalists only publish articles focusing on the game's funding or click bait titles which generally have a negative undertone for the game, just to cause drama.

I mean, it's very important to be skeptical, especially for a crowd funded game, but we're all on Gamespot for the same reason. We love games. The concept for Star Citizen is amazing and incredibly ambitious, so we ALL should at least 'want' for the game to be made and be a success. Also, CIG isn't hiding anything from us, they clearly are making HUGE technical hurdles to achieve the game's vision. There are so many positive, exciting and interesting things for journalists to publish.
