To everyone who says that sony going blu-ray was a bad idea, fail to realize these 2 major things:
1. Blu-ray was actually losing to HD-DVD up until the ps3 came out. After the ps3 came out, HD-DVD sales got trampled by blu-ray sales almost every month, even when Transformers came out exclusively to HD-DVD, it still got outsold by blu-ray sales. So in essence, the ps3 having a blu-ray player in it helped the sony format from seeing another pitiful death like Betamax, UMD, and mimi cd's.
2 I can pull up plenty of dev stating that sony did the right thing by incorporating the blu-ray format this gen. In fact, many dev praised the 360 for being so powerful and easy to develope on, but also bashed m$ for keeping the dvd-9 format this gen. Sony went the right direction with the blu-ray format, they just executed the idea very poorly.

1. Just because Blu Ray killed off HDDVD doesn't mean it has been or will be successful. As far as I know DVD sales still out sell BluRay by quite a bit and Blu Ray has been on shelves for 3 years now. It may take off at some point, but so far no good for Sony. 2. Dave Jaffe himself, the creator of God of War, said that making Blu Ray mandatory was the single greatest mistake Sony made entering this gen. Also, the best selling games of this gen have shown that Blu Ray is not needed at all (i.e. Halo 3, Modern Warfare, GTA4, etc). Not to mention the success of the Wii which we all know need either HD or Blu Ray to be successful. Give up defending Blu Ray...IT ISN"T NEEDED AT ALL.FAIL
Killzone 2 required blu ray for the space. MGS4 needed it. FF13 is going to need it. You realize that KZ2 and MGS4 are both AAA titles.
Also the sucess of the wii is because it started cheap and became popular through publicity.
Games these days are getting bigger and bigger. Rage, Id Software's game, requires a ton of space (sorry i dont know source, but i heard that it might require more disks for 360, I HEARD).
