@nibbin1191: hummm... i'm curious... do you honestly think that Andromeda is way worse than all 3 prior mass effect?... or even KOTOR(1-2)? or Dragon Age? Cause honestly, all of those are nowhere near "Witcher" Quality... And we did not get the feeling Andromeda was not at other Bioware level of "quality"... My wife and i really liked all of the games listed above though... granted Andromeda is not a masterpiece like Witcher 3 is, but it was a hundred times better than we ever expected when we played it (bug free with mods) :)
@moriwenne: Lets just say that I pretty much agree with what you said :) ... We all want the best games possible! As well as honest and respectful companies... :)
I cannot really speak about Star Citizen's way of doing things because I have not been following that game at all... I hope for everyone who put in a fortune they get what they wanted, but i don't know more than that :)
@moriwenne: I really agree with what you said... I wished every cutscene was hand-crafted, with custom camera works, good animation, voice acting and lipsync... however that is simply not possible in such large scale games... I have worked for 10 years or so in what you might call "aaa" game studios, and i saw the ugly side of it, how stuff is miss-managed, every projects cut corners to save money... its really sad to be honest...
I still cannot forgive games like ni no kuni 2 which has sporadic voice acting on and off all the time... for falcom games (ys, trails series, zwei), i can understand given they have so much dialogues that they chose major story points... its still very sad there is so little... as for mass effect, well at LEAST they had voice 100% of the time, that is a super major achievement... and you cannot compare mass effect to god of war or uncharted, the quantity of lines is like 1% of what mass effect had to produce...
I worked on Secret World (mmo) as cinematic designer, we had to create about 8h of cinematics (mocaped, voice, anim, custom camera, everything) with the team we had it still took us close to 2 years to make them all... and its only a super small percentage of all the missions availlable in the game... i cannot even grasp how huge the content must have been for a game like mass effect, dragon age or witcher... so i can more easily forgive when they cut corners and try to automate some of the process in all of these 3 games :)
@moriwenne: to further elaborate on "looks during dialogues"... the problem i think is that a lot of the non key story cutscenes uses default idle anims when only 2 character are talking... you dont have custom camera work, no special anims, etc... but thats the same in most other games of the same genre... and i personally like this way better over games like ni no kuni 2 which only has about 10% voice scattered all over the place... (not comparing the game, style or anything else here, just voice/anims in dialogues/cutscenes) :)
I personally replayed KOTOR 1 and 2 with my wife last year (with dozens of 4k mods too)... both were great... but there was ZERO anims in most except a few scenes... at least we were grateful for the voice acting! :)
@moriwenne:honestly, i played it about 8 months ago with latest patch at the time (and 20 something mods), and it REALLY was not as bad as the dozens of video, clips or memes i saw all over... it took us 95h to 100% every maps... I wouldnt say it was way worse than any of the other mass effect or dragon age inquisition... :)
I really agree with Mass Effect Andromeda... not often have we seen games hated so much... granted, it was not without merit... and the game has been mostly fixed... if you add in the dozens of mods available on nexusmods to tweak the game to what you personally like, that game is now really far from where it started and is actually really fun :)
