I hope it's a prototype because it's the clunkiest damned thing I've ever seen. It's also a very small, odd-shaped touchscreen. But I'd have to see what they have in mind for its use before I could make any final judgment.

I'm one of those gamers who has never been a big fan of Halo, in part because I just don't dig FPS games, but also because I didn't like the floaty controls. But I've always liked Bungie's vision, and their care for the fiction surrounding the gameplay (something lacking in most FPSs). I'm also not a fan of MMOs. But strangely enough, there's something compelling about the idea of this game. I'm curious about it in a way that I didn't think I would be about a game that combines FPS and MMO mechanics. I'm by no means convinced they'll deliver what I want (it's still Bungie, after all), but I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. It looks interesting.

So, just the other day Obsidian was pitching a new Star Wars RPG. Now they're pitching a new Fallout. Something seems off here. Like they're desperate for someone to give them some relevant work again.

"Tørnquist says that player choice is important to Dreamfall Chapters, though, he says, "I would use the word 'freedom' instead of 'choice'. "

In other words, they're not taking anything from recent gaming developments, they're just trying to pass off older gameplay with new gameplay language. So, no real choice, just a linear story. That's fine, and I loved the original games, but be up-front with us about it. If you're not giving us player choice, just tell us. Don't beat around the bush.

Note the seeming contradiction: making the games more action-oriented meant the games "were no longer for [him]" but was necessary to "broaden the fan base." This homogenization of gameplay elements doesn't "broaden" the fan base, it just alienates fans of the original game. We can get big action just about everywhere else.

There's a discontent among developers with creating niche genre titles that do their jobs well, like the original Dead Space did. Everything must be pushed to be bigger and louder. Meanwhile, fans of big, loud action games have already pegged Dead Space as survival horror, and probably won't touch it. It's basically a textbook way of derailing a franchise. I hope Dead Space survives it.

Either Victorian-London-Creed or Pirate-Creed would be my choices. One of thew few things I loved about AC3 was the ship battles (though they could have been fleshed out a bit more). But otherwise, they really need to pare back the game to where it was with Brotherhood, and dump quite a bit of the experimentation they did in Revelations and AC3. Brotherhood had perfect gameplay balance. From AC3 they could keep the homestead-type community building, and the ship battles. Dump the crafting, bring back armor and some RPG elements, and then let it go. It would be damned near perfect, even if they screw up the story.

You know, it's been so long that I forget most of the story. I still have Dreamfall from back when I first picked up my Xbox 360 (it was an Xbox game that they backward-supported), but I no longer have the original Longest Journey game for the PC (unless it's hiding in a box somewhere). Hell, I played that around the time I played Grim Fandango. It's old. They'll almost need to re-release the original game. I do remember loving the original game, and liking Dreamfall somewhat less. But I'll definitely pick it up so long as they at least have the option of filling us in on what's already happened.

@TenraiSenshi I'm so ready for a new console generation, but I couldn't be more irritated by the console wars starting up all over again. This past generation has been the absolute worst for that sort of thing. What a waste of time.

How dare a *game* company threaten a suit! It's something only Hollywood moguls can do! Sorry Frank, I love your work, but on this you're being a dipshit. Clearly someone in legal didn't do their homework before they named the show.

And honestly, I think Lost Angels sounds better anyway.
