I have the Hauppauge WinTV 1800 and am running into issues that might be compatibility related.

1. I also have a Logitech QuickCam - everytime I try to invite my niece to view it (she's my guinea pig contact because we have the same model webcam) it shows a viewing of the TV, and the video on the TV freezes up. I have to close it and restart it (the TV app) to get the TV back on. Even when the TV function isn't being used, the video of what would be on the TV shows in the webcam spot! BTW, the audio is never affected...just video. It is the same result whether WinTV or SageTV.

2. I'm using Yahoo Messenger - her choice - which also seems to have compatibility issues with my sidebar items.

3. Some of this may very well be my fault. I just finished a new build and I have all kinds of bells and whistles I didn't have before so I'm still working out the details on MANY things. I've just hooked up my computer via ethernet to RoadRunner cable via a LinkSys router and, while I can get internet, I can't figure out yet how to get to the files on the other computer (not a related issue, just bringing it up to show I've still got some ground to cover).

So, I've got the WinTV-HVR-1800 with cable plugged directly into it via a cable run from the cable box (no settop yet). I've got the router connected via ethernet into the motherboard. I've selected internet connection and Yahoo Messenger webcam connection as LAN, as they go through the router to get to the broadband cable router. This seems as though it would be correct also because the internet didn't work initially until I deleted the Broadband option that was automatically established.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SYS: Intel Q6700, Mobo Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, eVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb KO, 2x2G Corsair Dominator, 500G HD, WinTV HVR1800, LinkSys BEFSR41, Logitech QuickCam...anything else you need to know?

:)

Yep, it's for Vista 64.

The analysis took me to the upgrade page on nVidia's site. I decided to go to eVGA (Brand) and download it from there and see if I had any better luck. I did. Sorry for bothering you guys with this but I'm still really nervous about my first build and the problems I've had and it gets so annoying when something should work and it doesn't. Odd that the same upgrade would be incompatible and nVidia's site and compatible at eVGA. Oh well, I'll file it away for future use.

I ran an analysis for a game to see if I could run it (because downloading it failed/incompatible), and it suggested a driver update for my nVidia 8800 GTS 512 KO. I tried to load the update but it said it was incompatible with my system and to check and see if I've got a 32bit(x86) or 64bit. Since I installed Vista 64 bit, I assumed it was 64 bit but I do notice that I have two Program File folders, onw saying x86. What's the deal?

The update is a 64bit upgrade. Shouldn't this work on my computer?

3 1/2 weeks later and I'm still trying to finish my build! I can't even begin to tell you how frustrated I am with the whole process.

The latest issue is with my Hauppauge 1800...I guess! I completed the build (again) yesterday and used the TV function for the first time last night. No problems. This evening I was futzing around with the FM Radio that's included with the tuner and having a bit of a problem. First the response is CRAZY slow and it is difficult to tune. I've not read the manul (printed it off is more like it) so I set it aside. When I switched to the TV function, the voice went wacky with a couple of second delayed echo. I exited WinTV and went back in and the sound no longer echoed but the delay remained. I restarted the computer and started WinTV again. Everything seemed to be going fine....until I went online (don't know if that has anything to do with it as it shouldn't) and the picture went black with colored streeaks running through it. I closed WinTV and restarted with no luck. I opened up SageTV and it's the same thing. I restarted the computer and its the same thing...except now its gone more to a white background with the streaking image. The audio seems to be working fine, not that I can see the lips moving...or even people!

Has anyone else had similar issues and what did you do? I had a motherboard arrive DOA with regards to the PCIe slots so, with NewEggs rather slow RMA situation, nearly 2 weeks was eaten up with that process. My 30 day return ends May 23rd so I need to know if this is an issue that can be resolved. I intend to call Hauppauge if I can't get help here but, to be honest, if I don't have to call, I would much rather. I'm leary of waiting times and trying to get someone to understand what I'm saying!

Specs: Q6700, 8800 GTS 512 KO, 500g HD, 4G RAM, Creative X-Fi Audio, Hauppauge 1800 (obviously!).

Thx

Did you run the PSU calculator on Antec's website? I did and my new build came to 470Ws. Someone said to add 100W for the "aging" process. I have the Antec P182SE case and bought the PC P&C 610 Silencer, which seems to be fair with the wattage issue. I went with it because I knew the cords would be long enough since the case has the PSU on the bottom and this could be an issue. I also knew that it comes highly recommended by many sites. If you go with it, know that it is a bit longer than most (the silencer is accomplished by adding space) and can be hard to fit. I had to turn it upside down in order to run the cords up the back, and it is roomier at the back around the center fan. (The cord bundle is on the "front" side.) Your case won't have the fan problem but, with the side window, you might want to do it anyway. I was inspired to do so by someone else with the same case and PSU so I'm guessing it's alright to do it...let me know if it isn't!

See, that's the stuff that's good to know! My calculations came out to 470W and I had purchased a 610W so I'm hoping it will work out fine. :)

The calculator does have some built in options for increasing the wattage to adjust for age (they suggest doing this if you plan on keeping the PSU for more than a year).

Still a newbie but... I play the Sims 2 with a ton of downloads and lots of neighbors, roomies etc. With 1G RAM, it bluescreened, with 2G RAM it played fine. (XP32bit) My new build (waiting on a replacement motherboard so haven't gotten to use it yet), is 2x2G Crucial Dominator on Vista 64bit that cost around $100 and I'm thinking it will be great. I do a lot of multi-tasking, having a lot of different things going at one time, including a TV tuner, so it seemed like a safe - and fairly inexpensive, bet.

I think it depends on what you intend to use your computer for and, with games that have a lot of "stuff," it seems that more RAM can't hurt.

As a first time builder, the easy part was determining what products to get. I did my homework, read various forums and... VOILA! The HARD part was trying to figure out what size power supply I would need.

Now it's after the fact for me but I found a calculater - a pretty extensive one - that will give you a good idea of the minimum wattage you will need. (I wish I'd found it before but I'm OK!) I found it accidently on Antec's site (I bought their P182SE case and love it, by the way) under the power supply products. It will also come in handy if you are wanting to upgrade and aren't sure if your systems PSU will handle it. Anyway, here it is...

Hope this helps you guys out. ;)

As I mentioned, my Mom's computer only has a 300W PSU. The recommendations, however, did not follow this. Elsewhere it was also mentioned that a 300W could handle the HD2600XT. That said, I bought it and have greatly regretted it.

1. It crashes on the game that couldn't handle the sucky graphics that came with the computer.

2. It was difficult to get the software to install...and it was the most recent driver as I did check the internet (tried both).

3. It overrides the onboard sound, rendering the computer mute. Separately I attempted to obtain information on how to resolve this but no one ever answered. I've contacted ATI and HP and they haven't helped...acting as if it's news to them when it happens frequently enough to find plenty on Google, but with no real solutions.

4. Uninstalled the card - what a mess as it initially screwed up the resolution on the monitor such that I couldn't even get in and then finally so that I now get a startup screen that talks about a floppy fail (?) and makes me choose F1 to go to BIOS or F2 to continue. When I select F2, everything else is now normal. AND the sound is back!

Now the question is, do I just return the card and forget it or do I spend another $35 on a 430W PSU and pray that someone will finally tell me how to make the onboard, integrated sound work when the onboard integrated graphics card is disabled and a new, separate graphics card is installed.

To that end...

1. The sound properties menu ONLY shows the ATI audio option. The Realtek '97 was no longer available.

2. I downloaded the driver for the Realtek '97 and it DID NOT change the situation. (I tried this because someone was able to get that to work with their situation.)

3. I don't have a Recovery Tools folder under HP so I can't use the Application recovery option as shown on their website. (I do have the Recovery Tools CD but it appears to be DOS based and I didn't even try to figure out how to use it.)

4. ATI said to go into BIOS and, under Onboard Sound, configure it to "Always On". I couldn't find anything like this so...

So, for anyone else who upgraded their graphics card on an integrated motherboard, especially HP, I would appreciate hearing from you as to how I can resolve this issue.
