@b74kd3th Not much of a library? Steam has over 3000 games! I'm reasonably certain that's more than any other console at launch. Just on the Linux native side alone there are currently about 200 games and the remaining 2800 can be streamed (assuming you have a PC to stream from). Additionally, there are still the Linux AAA announcements Valve teased, who knows what that could mean, and there are definitely exclusives: every single PC game that has never been released on consoles.

@LiquidGold Distance from the TV is not the inconvenience, the fact that it would interrupt my family's ability to watch TV or do work on the PC when they want to is the problem. Moving the PC from the desk to the living room makes two devices in my house less flexible. Adding a Steam Machine maintains the flexibility of my existing PC while giving my TV a really cool new option.

@93ChevyNut I think it is really too soon for anyone, including these "analysts", to make any kind of prediction. Wait until Valve gets those 300 prototypes out and the testers start talking about them, then we'll have some real facts to draw conclusions from.

@fadersdream Yes and no. The design and intended use are definitely all console, but the games are still PC games, with all the benefits that entails (modding, free multiplayer, better graphics, etc.). In the end, isn't it the games that matter?

@krystyla You aren't forced to use a controller in the games or in the Steam UI. It is more convenient in the UI, but the games still have the same options they've always had on PCs, so if you prefer KB/M, you can still use it.

@Morphine_OD Nope, it's just not connected to my TV and it would be way more inconvenient if it was anyway. But I still would like to be able to play my PC games on my TV, now I have a better option than just buying another PC.

@mikeyvp87 As I said above, you don't need "a really good one" to get good performance when you are no longer on Windows. You only need a really good one for bragging rights.

@Darknight765 Yeah, I have to agree, upgrading PC parts is only expensive if you don't know what you are doing and/or fall prey to the "moar power!" mentality. On a purpose-built machine like the Steam Machine, you don't need the biggest graphics, the most RAM, the fastest processor, etc. to get the same performance you can get out of a top of the line PC. Much of the power of your hardware is lost to the operating system and random background software in Windows World, with that out of the picture, nearly all the power is put into the game and you can spend less for your upgrade, but still get more performance.

@Gen007 I've probably posted this a half dozen times since Monday. Moving your gaming PC into the living room is not always an option, but the option to play PC games on a TV is still desirable. In my household, we have a PC in the home office that is used for work and gaming. If I move that PC to the living room, now no one else in the house can watch TV or play a game when I need to work and vice-versa. At the same time there is no need for a full PC in the living room when we have other devices we can use for things like web browsing, without interrupting TV watching or game playing. A Steam Machine relieves that inconvenience. It gives us just what we want in the living room, but nothing we don't need.

@egger7577 That is definitely a big selling point for me. No more spending up to $500 on a new console just to play new games, instead spend a fraction of that to upgrade the one part that needs upgrading for the latest games.
